JLB, he is an exciting player. He is my pick to be the next best American player in a few years.
I am not going overboard to say when exactly, because he just started to play the tour a few months ago in autumn.
Last night he scored his first win over a top 30 player, this is just his 3 ATP event he is in, after Nottingham last summer, and AO.

Good to see a good young American coming through - a much need shot in the arm. Personally, I'm hitching up to the Zverev and Kyrgios bandwagons going forward, but I like what I've seen from Taylor Fritz so far.

I totally understand your commitment to Kyrgios, he is from your country after all, but I am skeptical about him, mainly because he does not look to me serious about his career, he SHOULD be playing a full time tour, but he is not. Skipping small events will not help him move up through the rankings. Why he is not playing NOW? Any excuse you can think of?

He's injured - was supposed to be playing Rotterdam.

I'm actually more excited by Zverev to be honest... I like his mental side better than Nicks. He's a real competitor... but Kyrgios really has huge upside, genuine easy power and if his arrogant attitude could be harnessed in the right direction, he could be a monster... but it's a big IF. Still, he's only 20.

OK, injury is acceptable, but also concerning. He has had quite a few two years ago, and this also does not bode well for his future.

Well, you do make a valid point, because Nick has pulled out of a lot of tournaments, I think he had a few months rest a while back... but in this particular case, I think he is injured.
The biggest thing holding Nick Kyrgios back is his mindset - but his raw attributes are good.

Just finished watching Taylor Fritz playing a match for the first time. It was a sweaty one for me...LOL
It was a rollercoaster, he defeated Becker: 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.
Taylor was broken when 5 all in the third set, so I thought he is toasted, but again, this young man is super clutch, he brokes right back to force a 3 set TB.

He wins the TB 7-5. . Now onto his first SF of his career!!!

I saw the last of it, too. Great job by Taylor Fritz holding his nerve there at the end. Like Zverev yesterday, though Z. lost today. First US teenager in a SF in 25 years, they said. Unlike the group ahead of them (the early 20-somethings), these kids seem impatient to go places.

I still think Thiem makes a good push this year. Zverev and Egg-boy Jr are the other two I'll be watching.

I hope so with Thiem. It's good to see a young crop beginning to get a bit of traction and hopefully they will drive each other on to bigger and better things. These youngsters will hopefully fill the vacuum that the generation above haven't filled.

He's not playing now among other reasons, to minimise the chances of an ATP suspension, the probation period finishes at the end of feb and if he misses minor events he's not hurting himself but risks his fine tally ticking over the suspension amount. Better to miss events in Feb than March, don't you think?

Good thinking @The Lad and welcome to the boards.

Thankyou looking forward to a tennis forum where one can discuss, debate and even disagree with each other without resorting to the childish antics of one other well known tennis forum. Reading the posts it seems to be the place.

Welcome, The Lad. I agree with your thinking on Kyrgios keeping out of things until he's out from under his suspension window, but it doesn't say well of him if he doesn't trust himself enough to keep from transgressing. I think he'd do better to play, and keep it to tennis, but that's my opinion.

So Fritz v. Berakis and Querrey v. Nishkori. I'd say Fritz has a chance v. Berankis. I don't think he'll take down Nishikori in the final, though.
