What Serena meant by calling Sharapova's boyfriend's heart black?
So we have concluded that the comment is about Maria, even when the reporter admits that he is not sure and that he guessed and assumed? By the way, she never said that she was talking about a top 5 player; read the article, that also came from the reporter. This is trashy, national enquirer journalism but we rush to judgement (like Maria) with no credible evidence. According to another poster, Serena is a catty b!tch because Sloane said so; wow I didn't realize Sloane was such a great judge of character. Really folks, let's focus on the tennis.

I love Serena's game, but why is she talking about this bull. With that said, does Maria have conclusive evidence that Serena was referring to her. Pretty stupid if she doesn't. And will she be big enough to apologize if she is wrong. What she did by bringing Patrick's kids into this was stupid and careless.

Serena has humiliated Maria on court for so long that maybe Maria is a bit paranoid. Maybe she thought that Serena was now trying to humiliate her off court. Even my friends who don't follow tennis know that Serena has beaten Maria down for approximately the last nine years. I think more people became aware of it after the Olympic mauling (6-0, 6-1), because even some none tennis fans watched Olympic tennis. And because the beating stood out because Maria was representing all of Russia. The fact that they are back at the place, Wimby, where it happened, has to be more intense for Maria. And I doubt that Maria's sponsors are jumping up and down at the thought of their products being endorsed by someone known as: the girl that Serena makes look so bad (over and over and over again). Doesn't make for a great selling point. They have to be telling Maria she needs to win against Serena if you want to continue to be their "IT" girl.

If these women end up playing one another in the final, I expect, as Pete Bodo once wrote: Serena to squish Maria under her sneaker like a sugarpova gummy bear candy.

So what does this thread has to do with the current WTA tour? This is just silly reality TV banter, I can watch this foolishness on cable.

I agree, Serena is to old to be taking cuts at player's, and I don't knock Maria for her comeback, if it's about her. But, if they meet in the final, expect the mother of all beat downs.
Did Serena actually say she was talking about Maria? The writer admitted that he did not know, he "guessed" and used process of elimination and "figured". Really? Has news reporting come down to guessing and figuring? Are people to be now attacked based on what others have guessed?

The bottom line is Maria actually had some pretty sound advice in that retort. Talk about yourself and not others.
And in offering this advice, she spoke about someone's marriage, wife and even included the kids. Great advice, maybe she should follow it. Her retort was based on information that might even be about her. Contrary to what she believes, sometimes not all new revolves around her, lol.

All this is done to deter Serena from winning or equaling some records. Maria is not important in the scheme of things because she cannot beat Serena, she is coming off as a very bitter Betty.I think Serena was set up and she didnt have the sense to know that she is being set up.
The best revenge is to win Wimbledon without dropping a set...and she will, sorry pova you will coninue to be schooled:snigger

Center Court is where Maria had her greatest Success in tennis (2004). It is also where she was destroyed (6-0,6-1) in front of not just the tennis world, but all of the world representing Russia. If she has to face Serena after this on Center Court Wimby, and gets crushed, I expect to see tears like I've never seen them in tennis before.

Um, like me think what this has to do with the current WTA tour. The tour biggest stars having HUGE verbal battle through the press.

Serena apologized to sharapova in press today.

Direct Quote

I made it a point to reach out to Maria, because she was inadvertently brought into the situation by assumptions made by the reporter," Williams said.

There's also a video where Serena says she apologized to Maria at the player party about her being brought into the situation, though she never admits the comments were about Maria.

^^ That's some more good PR work by Serena to reach out to Maria. It doesn' matter if the comments were about Maria, Serena took the high road and squashed the issue before it became bigger than the tournament. Maria should have done this the other day. She should have talked to Serena privately and got the facts before making those comments.

Well, according to Serena, they talked at the player party on Thursday, and Sharapova made those comments on Saturday. That's kind of weird she would make those comments after talking to Serena.

According to Maria's people, Serena did issue an apology to Maria, but Maria was still unsure of who Serena spoke about in the article.

Serena should never have apologized to pova...should have just said no comment. This is something that Venus is very good at...communication skills.Vee can talk herself out of any situation and is capable of shutting down anyone from the media...with no apologies.

Even the NYTimes has picked it up:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/24/sports/tennis/williams-apologizes-for-comments-in-article.html?ref=tennis

Who knew this soap opera was so complicated? Sometimes Serena gets embroiled in controversy not of her making, and sometimes she walks straight into it. This one is the latter, and she was right to apologize. And she'll be right to take the advice to focus on her tennis for the next two weeks. Being so favored, she is flirting with foolhardy to create a distraction for herself at this moment.

It's truly amazing to read all these very upset comments like they've any influence in the matter - Really - it is not like anyone outside this very little circle of Serena fans care about what Masha said and why she said it? - As far as I know Masha never says anything rude about her peers unless she's provoked - I'm not saying that Masha is right but puleeese - 2 cats fighting and all you Serena fans can do is to blame one part only?

You Serena fans all try to pretend that what Serena said was not at all about Masha - But consider this - which of the top 5 player's partners does Serena have enough knowledge about to be able to judge him of having a "black heart"? - It implies that Serena knows this partner on a close level and that she's been hurt by him in one or another way - Therefor it hardly can be Vika - Agniezska - nor Na - Also consider the condescending words "She begins every interview with 'I'm so happy. I'm so lucky' – it's so boring. She's still not going to be invited to the cool parties

Seen in that light I find it understandable that Masha tells Serena to mind her own business and if she really wants to talk personal stuff she can do it about her own love life - like the married guy she's dating - Note that it wasn't Masha who started all this - Note also that it seems odd that no one of you Serena fans brings up her outrageous comment in the rape issue which she later had to apologize for.

So spare me all these fake emotions - Serena never should have said something like that about any "top five player" and her comment in the rape issue was completely outta line

Correct me if I'm wrong, she was talking to her sister and the reporter overheard it. I'm certain you've never talked negative about someone to a friend or family member, and her comments about the rape case are HER belief, and u don't have the right to say how someone should feel.

Who are we fooling here? This is a publicity slam dunk for the WTA and public interest is high due to this recent story. The casual fan viewership will increase significantly if these two make it to the finals of Wimby.

You can't buy publicity like this. The two biggest names in WOMENS sports engaged in a "cat fight," is going to pay huge dividend. Yes, I know some are going to complain, "but, do we want this type of publicity?" HECK YEA!!

People have been complaining, "women's tennis is boring with one player dominating." Well, now you have an added element and the anticipation of how the two individuals involved will respond if they should meet, is going to be tantalizing to say the least. You may not have a "rivalry" between this two, but, we have something just as good, a feud!

My question is if Serena wasn't talking about Maria why did she apologize? The writer infers that it is about Sharapova (while I am inclined to think it is Maria that Serena was talking about in that statement) why would you apologize for something in which you didn't mention any names? Unless, she apologized for him assuming that she was talking about Maria and being inadvertently brought into that article. To me, that apology shows that you were indeed talking about Maria.

And, Maria if you are going to talk about something without being fully up to speed then shame on you as well.
