How so? Just curious.

I'm guessing this means you're not a "minority" in America? Cuz...take it from someone who is...even in this day and age, most of us have to deal with some kind of racist nonsense every day of our lives.

Every year half of the teams suck and a lot of the games aren't very good...and tickets are always overpriced. I'm all for freedom of speech. If NFL players want to protest police brutality against blacks and/or systemic racism against blacks, then by all means do it...on their own time. If the NFL allows it, then fine. This has nothing to do with "freedom of speech" because their (the NFL players') freedom of speech hasn't been suppressed by THE GOVERNMENT. My personal opinion is that it's in bad taste to take a knee during the National Anthem, regardless of the "cause"...unless you just think that America is inherently bad/racist/unjust.

Why is it in bad taste to take a knee during the national anthem? Do you know the history of the national anthem? It, too, has a racist history because the writer of the original poem - Francis Scott Key - wrote it after he lost a battle with former slaves who'd been conscripted into the British army in exchange for their freedom. The British then marched into DC and torched the White House - and the former slaves were among them. Key witness the burning of DC and then wrote the poem in resonse. Nobody ever sings that 3rd verse that condemns those freed slaves. And nobody ever remembers that Key was pro-slavery and wanted to send freed slaves back to Africa.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court has ruled that it is freedom speech to burn the American flag, so why isn't it freedom of speech to take a knee during the national anthem at a stupid sports game? It is non-violent protest that hurt no one. It had been going on for over 8 months before Trump's racist ass turned it into a national incident to deflect from his own legal troubles with the Russia investigation. If someone wants to sit instead of stand for the national anthem, take a knee, stand on their head, hop up and down on one foot, etc. - that's their choice. Nobody else's.

You said that you have to deal with racism every day of your life. My question was "How so?" You didn't answer the question.
I'm a white male cop.

So, is it your belief that America is fundamentally bad and illegitimate because of its history of slavery, regardles of its painful measures to eventually abolish it and preserve the union?

So you're saying that the National Anthem was written in order to condemn blacks? If that is the case, then we need a new anthem.

Regarding the Supreme Court...They are humans, not God. Is it possible that they don't get everything right all the time? By all means, if you hate America, then burn the flag, piss on it, spit on it, whatever. All I'm saying is that, as reprehensive as I think it is, you should do it on your own time. If your employer is okay with it, then fine. Go for it.
It's a different story if the federal gov't prohibits it/freedom of speech.

Do you think that the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution are illegitimate because they were written by white guys, many of whom owned slaves? Is America inherently/fundamentally bad?

No he won't. First of all, he'd never intern with any police dept. Secondly, he'd never change his mind because he has somehow been brainwashed to believe that police are inherently racist. Bottom line: Police target blacks and want to kill them. It's absurd!

Pat Tillman was white. Enough said?

How about Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett crying police brutality/racism when it was a lie? Or the Michael Brown "Hands Up Don't Shoot" fiction? Yes, there are crooked policeman. But a few "bad apples" don't define us, just as a few "bad apples" don't define any other group.

I never said any of that and I certainly never said I hate America or shite on the Constitution or DoI. It's amazing how people take their own prejudices and incorrectly extrapolate one comment into a whole slew of nonsense that wasn't said.

All I said is that the national anthem has a racist history (just like a ton of other things in this country are steeped in our racist past). Therefore if anyone, be it African-Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, Asians, etc., etc., want to participate in non-violent protest during the playing of a song - I don't have a problem with it. If people have a problem with non-violent protests during the national anthem then they need to move to a fascist country where people get killed for peaceful protests. Whether you like it or not the 1st amendment protects the right to protest and nowhere in it does it say, "Except for during the playing of the national anthem...which has not yet been written but if we ever do have one any form of protest during the playing of it shall be deemed totally freaking illegal, boo!"

As far as my employer and protests? Funnily enough I work for a public institution so they have no choice about protests. We have more protests for dumb stuff than you can shake a stick at. At least once a week or so protesters with signs are railing about something. As long as they have a permit and nothing gets out of hand they're free to protest about whatever they want. The cops very rarely have to get involved and remove people. And I'm talking all ethnic groups. There's always someone mad about something. I just keep my head down and keep moving.

"Dumb stuff" to you...not to others. Is it possible that many Americans consider the protesting of the National Anthem to be "dumb stuff"?

How does this have ANYthing to do with the 1st Amendment? As far as I'm aware, the federal government has not banned kneeling during the National Anthem. If the NFL, as a private enterprise, does or doesn't ban it, then that's their choice...just don't expect "average" Americans to like it.

Because the National Anthem represents patriotism for the USA. Not sure how kneeling for the Anthem "protests" police brutality against minorities (aka blacks) and/or systemic racism.

I did not know the history of the Anthem. Who decided, when was it decided, and for what reason was it decided, that the last few lines of the Anthem were to not be recited?

"White privileged" = ME...because my dad worked in a factory and my mom was a secretary...because they were "privileged"...unlike your parents, who had no opportunities. Just kidding, Neko...because I have no idea of your circumstances.
