The increased confidence will have to translate into better play...

It usually does, but this result is positive, much more so than his ineffective scrambles in Barcelona. I also think reverting back to his old stick adds surety to what he's doing. I'm not looking at Rafa's shot-making yet as an indicator of anything. It rarely is, at this stage. The confidence, the calm, and so on. It'll be more interesting tomorrow, and if he faces Berdy, he'll be asked even more questions, telling us more about where he is...

How do you think he will do vs. JIsner?

I expect him to handle him better, because he's more one dimensional, but I'm not forgetting that some of big John's better performances have come on clay. Either way, he's going to face a heavy and sustained barrage, which is great for helping his timing, etc...

I'd like to know who is a consistent player on these days, Raonic? Berdych? Isner? Ferru? Roger? Kyrgios? Muzz? Nish? Nadal? no one of them, the only one is probably Novak and that is why still is the #1. Hope they improve soon

It certainly didn't happen during Davis Cup when he went down in flames to some nobody like Ward vs Britain! I can never get over that; takes out Nole or Berdych, but can't seem to beat someone not even in the top 100, even on clay! How does that happen? :puzzled :nono :cover

Well, it happened exactly the same way that isner beat Nole: an upset... ;)

Look, Isner is no great player, but he can be dangerous, especially when he's bombing down serves. He could sit out his return games and win most matches on tiebreakers. But he's going to lose to lower ranked players. I like the guy, but he's not a great player. He is, however, capable of upsetting the best - as he did with Nole, and almost with Rafa in Paris, and I think he beat Roger on clay - and he's going to be a testy opponent tomorrow if he makes it there...

And whoever wins the Berdych/Isner match, it doesn't really matter, they are both very focused at the moment. Rafa is going to have his hands full tomorrow for sure.

Also I only caught the first game of Rafa-Grigor. Was the whole match as the low quality as the opening game?

I've just had a little time to watch the Isner-Berdych match and I'd like to know why some people in the Stadium are looking more their cellular phones than the game. I saw the same in Miami, USO, and all around the world and also during another sports like Basketball, Baseball, Football, in the movie theatres, etc etc, what a sickness!!!, I love the technology but come on!:cover:mad::(:nono.

It must have ended that way! I woke up in time to see Grigor break Rafa and consolidate it to be up 3-1; so he must have slid back, losing 5 of the next 6 games! I must have missed a classic! :cover :nono  Dimitrov had enough chances, but he's so casual at times trying to emulate his idol so much, he allows his advantages to melt away! I thought he would be at least a visual aid to the next generation since Roger couldn't have a better stunt double! :popcorn

Well, perhaps it would have been a more entertaining match if Dimitrov didn't try to pull a Wawrinka on Nadal and just bludgeon every backhand. Rafa misfired with the forehand a bit but at least it was a clean performance. Could anyone give us the W/UE for the match along with the other stats?

That's what I feel about Roger at times, rolling over all those backhands, many dropping very short at that! :cover :nono

That's the way how Dimitrov's racquet finished, maybe someone has told him that he could beat Nadal because his low form :nono :cover
