Tom Brady and Jordan retired and came back. Roger still may return to play doubles.Just my opinion
They came back for ego. Do you think Roger is going to come back to play doubles for ego? No way. He sang himself off, and he's not going to go through that sob-fest again.

I think the only way we see Roger come back is as a coach. I could see him enjoying that challenge. You also may see him start to run tournaments. I could see him as TD for Basel.

He says he's going to stay in tennis. I'm curious, too, to know what that would look like. He's already an executive, with his corporation with Godsick. And he has his charities and foundations. He clearly likes having founded and running Laver Cup. I don't exactly see him as a coach to an individual player, though he says he loves traveling. Maybe down the road. Rather more advisory, like Tony Roche was to him, back in the day.

That was lovely, and that he chose to have Rafa there for the first part. To have them talk about the evolution of rivalry-friendship. And then Roger to go swiftly to French, then Swiss German, then back to French...will we really ever see the like of him again, in a top representative of tennis?

I think you might be right. If his knees hold up, but of course, it’ll be the proof positive on this junket that it’s an exo if Team Europe fields a player who’s ranked 752 in the world, just because his name is Federer. But I think he may turn up at some main tour events and play doubles, which would be great! Maybe even as soon as Basle?

How about this as evidence it's an exo? They showed a lady in the stands at the just finished doubles Sock/FAA d. Murray/Babycakes: she was wearing a red sweatshirt with a gigantic RF logo on it, and waving an life-sized American flag. She doesn't know what team she's rooting for, but she's a fan.

Anyway, this is as close as World has been. 7-8 with the win in doubles just now. As Felix sets up to the the sacrificial lamb to Novak today...if ND plays as other-worldly as he did yesterday.

I wasn't able to tune in yesterday, did Novak say that he felt he was not a good idea for him to play doubles so Andy played with Seniore Matteo?

I don't know why Murray instead of Novak today in dubs. It's a lot of tennis for a guy who hasn't played since Wimbledon. Technically it's Borg's call.

I’m rooting for the rest of the world now. It’s boring and pointless otherwise. And I think it’s about time Felix stood up to be counted. I know he beat Carlos in the DC, but this would be more meaningful, even though it’s an exo…

Me, too. Like the lady in the sweatshirt, I've been very confused and back-and-forth across the weekend. I like Berrettini and Murray a lot, as players, but I had to remind myself that I wanted Rest of the World to win, to keep it interesting. Definitely rooting for Felix now, of course. Djokovic not as imposing as he was yesterday, at least so far.

It’s an exo, bro, nothing more than that, a burden on the schedules, though I enjoyed the way they all played it straight last night and let him retire with dignity. It was a very good match. Roger and his backhand, he only had to slot it straight down the line and it was a perfect finish. Tiafoe was party pooper with his head shots, but the lads were giggling so much it was hard to think there was anything at stake other than a nice send off for Roger.

By the way, I lazily saw a headline that says he might play again. I didn’t even bother to open the article, by Roger owes me if he does: I’ll never get them missed hours of sleep back again…
OK, let me put it this way: it’s an exo, however, it’s not as predetermined an outcome as I thought it might be. If you recall, when Roger and Rafa played charity exhibitions for each other’s charity several years ago, Wertheim wrote something like, “The matches went exactly as you would have predicted: three sets, with the person in their home country winning.”

If Laver Cup were like that, then Roger definitely would have won.
