It's very possible that the person who cares most about his legacy is Roger himself and there's no reason to protect him behind Mirka's skirts. She's been loyal and incredibly stalwart in terms of his business. But I don't believe that even a pushy wife and business faithful can make a person want to win more than they actually do. To me, for what it's worth, I think you should keep your faith in Roger, the player that brought you to the dance.

I have plenty of faith in his game, always have. It's the mind that has often failed him as he's aged, and the current downtrend I feel is that lack of fire more than anything else but who knows for sure. Maybe he trained hard during his time off this year and just didn't have a decent game for some reason, or maybe he has been bad due to being lazy. It is anyone's guess.

That would not be the case if Roger was henpecked husband. Perhaps unlikely, but he may well be such as all Nadalities (maybe even yourself at times?) who call him Mr Wawrinec do imply it! How about that for the consistency of your opinions? But apart from said consistency, I'm not saying anything would be wrong with so called "Mr Wawrinec". Even some celebrities and successful men can be henpecked:

The only one who calls Roger "Mr. Vavrinec" is isabelle, and she's not a Nadal fan. I don't think Roger is hen-pecked, though I do believe his wife to be a strong woman and strong partner in his career. Darth seems to think he's hen-pecked, though.

I can’t believe the great city of Chicago has no regular professional tennis tournament (men’s or women’s) within its immediate area.

Then again here in Northern Cali we lost the men’s tournament last played in San Jose and I think they lost in Southern Cal the women’s tourneys that used to be played in San Diego and LA. Is there any men’s tourney left in LA proper?

We were spoiled for so long , now we only have the WTA event moved to San Jose from Stanford and of course Indian Wells.

faker should retire from tennis for hitting Fed in the back. That is the punishment for hitting the GOAT when he's not looking.

Chicago is a huge tennis town with numerous tennis leagues for all . However, It's a huge sports town as you know with the popularity of the Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Sox and Blackhawks. I think the low turnout during the frigid months of usually Jan & Feb when the tours usually made it's stops were very ill advised during the 80"s and 90s. They really should have tried to capitalize on the popularity of the Williams Sisters and Fedalnovic during the past 15 years but Chitown has always been derelict in public relations.

The men have never done well here in Chicago; winter or summer! The women a lot more sustainable with the top players usually competing; Court, Evert, Navratilova, & Goolagong! I attended '75 final with Court defeating a very young Navratilova who was probably wiped out by beating Evert the night before! Court had some trouble though with a leg injury that forced her to stand during the court changes! The last news I can remember of a men's event here was Lendl scheduled to play and he either lost his 1st match or WD! His name was being used to get people to attend since he was the #1 player in the world, but it obviously didn't work! You know how long that has to have been; maybe 35 years ago! That was a winter event on an Ill. college campus! I remember attending the tournament in the summer of '75; court set up on the football field of "Soldiers Field!" Roscoe Tanner defeated John Alexander of Aust., the last of the Mohicans (as was coined by Bud Collins) 7-6,6-7,7-6! It's ridiculous that we don't support pro tennis here, but as was said, we're busy with sports around the calendar year with 2 baseball teams, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, figure skating, (all sport) tourns. that center in the Midwest, college and high school teams, etc.!   :ptennis:
