Back then, you and GSM were both in favor of him playing Rotterdam as an addition and to get the #1 back. You said it wasn't at all like the choice to play Montreal last year. Sincere question: is it just a coincidence that you cite Rotterdam, or do you wish now he hadn't played it?

That wasn't a mistake because it worked out. The worry was he'd lose early at Rotterdam and then start chasing it too hard.

The problem is he got to #1 and suffered a huge drop in motivation as expected. I don't think he is suddenly a scrub who is too old to win. He needs to mentally regroup, that's where he's been coming up short.

I was not aware that this thing was going on. What is the reason for having this tournament?

Roger hits the wrong shots most of the time these days.

I haven't paid much attention to the motivations! I think I heard Fed just wanted to give a homage to Laver; I say it's Roger's farewell tour thru 2019! Both feats are accomplished and charity funds are raised I would hope!  :ptennis:

I know Roger reveres Laver, but I think it is better to hold this tournament at the beginning of the season, when players really need match practice. And it can be held in Australia before the Australian Open, which would be fitting since Laver is Australian.

It would interfere with the Aussie swing of the tour; Brisbane and "The Hopman Cup!" That's not going to happen so close to AO!

Besides, most players won’t travel down under for an exho. By alternating between EUR and the US, they are guaranteed more participation

I have been here all weekend and this place is full. From all the reports I’ve gotten the players are really loving the Chi

He's been trash since Rotterdam, looking 37 and beyond. He shouldn't play this worthless exhibition anyways or anything else the rest of the year aside from YEC

He really looked as good as ever to me yesterday.

I could care less, he's been a lay up when it counted after AO this year. Doing ok at this glorified exho is meaningless, rather he spend time getting shit together for YEC and 2019

Before the Australian Open, most top players are already there in Australia. The Laver Cup would be an ideal preparation for the Australian Open for some of the players. Therefore, the players can actually benefit from it, rather than play it now just before the tennis season is over.

I think his fans should be happy he can play this good like he played yesterday. Perhaps he shows that in a masters or atp final or AO final.

Fiero is right. Moving it to AO season would interfere w/ Hopman Cup and the other ATP tour events.

Anything that doesn’t grant ranking points is an exho. I don’t care what anybody else calls it

We will see if he gets back to that. Some fellow Fed fans think he's done. I think he's just forgotten how to properly handle some of the donuts, he's been gagging on the frosting for awhile

There is a category in between ATP events that award ranking points and the exhos. Those are ITF events that don't award ranking points. For example, DC ties, Olympics and events such as Hopman cup fall under this category.

It worked out in the sense that he got the #1 back. Then he lost in IW and early in Miami. You can blame it on lack of motivation. Sure, why not? Does it really explain Wimbledon, though? How was he not going to be motivated to win Wimbledon?
