I don't think this tells us exactly how long the (in play) point was and is probably skewed somewhat by the fact Nadal is so slow between points.

Federer was 226 on this chart and nearly 9 seconds faster per point than Nadal.
Something is wrong in that list, what a bout Cilic who bounces the ball 20 times and then he stops for a seconds looking his opponent sometimes even three times? and Novak in this last USO the clock has gone to 0 several times? come on!

They probably didn't include service time because if they did that would mean that Rafa wins his points in less than 10 seconds per average.

Says a fan of the player who averages 35 seconds per service

Nadal won't play in Asia, the doctors have decided that he needs to rest well his knee and hopefully to come back in Paris

Hopefully he will be able to play the end of the year and that it will not cost him the year end no.1. It's going to depend on Djokovic's performance. But the most important thing is that he heals soon.

looks like dull's YE#1 chances are gone.

I think you made a typo, it's bull not dull.

If Djokovic is upset in a few tournaments and Nadal returns for Paris and WTF and does well, then it's still possible. But yeah again the bad luck of Nadal is endless, he should be sitting on 10 year-end no.1s by now if it weren't for all his injuries.

If Nadal returns it might be a close battle like Murray/Djokovic a few years back.

So you're counting on dull to win Bercy and WTF?

If anything the last few years should tell us it's way too early to predict the YE #1.

For one thing, after the Asian swing, Rafa , like Nole, has no points to defend.

YE final ranking does not depend on what the players have to defend.
The sum of the points accumulated this year is what determines the final ranking.

I would better say it's going to depend not only on Novak's performance but also the others players like Federer, Wawrinka, and some of the young ones which could beat Novak too

Yeah including the likes of Kyrgios and Zverev who are undefeated against Novak.

Good point. In the race to YE#1, Djokovic is 2nd, and barely more than 1000 points behind Nadal. With Rafa out of the Asian swing, and Djokovic on good form, it could come down to the indoor HC season...not Nadal's best part of the calendar.

True, it will still probably boil down to the indoor hardcourt season, points defended or not. Again we don't know how the players are going to emerge at YE.

However I will boldly predict going out out on a limb that either Rafa or Nole will be the YE #1.

Or someone else, you never know, tennis sometimes is a box of surprises B-)
Anyway the #1 comes and goes anytime and really it is not something that I'm concerned. Before Rafa's knee injury I used to say that he should skip Asia and look what happened, I would have preferred being healthy but anyway he needs now to take care with his knee and not the way he did last year, big mistake! and comeback playing in Paris and London in much better conditions, crossing fingers
