At least The Brat didnt go off in this match against Rafa.....a welcome change
He could see Rafa was 'struggling'

Speaking of double-standards, your man, who never does wrong in your eyes, bailed on a final v. Murray in Cincy in 2011 at 0-3 in the 2nd. He could have just stood there and took it for 3 games, but no. AND, he went on to win the USO, so how injured was he, really? And quitting in a final? It's you who has double-standards, my friend. What a joke! The double standards and hypocrisies are mind-numbing with so many of you! I have no words! Denis Shapo wins!
Go back and watch what The Brat has done in his previous match here for starters he should have been match faultedThis is a killer to me! Another player c/b struggling or injured, Rafa runs them to death, screaming "Vamos" & gesticulating, but it's all good!
He was elegantly subdued in his celebration. At least The Brat didnt go off in this match against Rafa.....a welcome change

I think it was. Courier was begging for Rafa to retire and protect his RG. And even though there is no love lost between Shapovalov and Nadal, esp. from the AO, Rafa knows the difference between a W and a RET, and he stuck it out, knowing he was going to lose that match. He likes to fight it out, too, but he was hampered and could have bailed. That's classy of him.
You think he takes things too far? he should have been match faulted and not be playing in this tournament.Until he learns the rules of tennis and grows up and stop telling crowds off in 4 letter words....maybe then he will get some respect.I do think Shapovalov takes things far, and he does need someone to come for him, so that he sees that. Having said that, I do like that he is an emotional player. He has to harness that into being a better player.
Well they didn’t, maybe the tournament director talked some sense into him and said you won’t get a second chance if you act up anymore you can catch an early flight to Paris. You think he takes things too far? he should have been match faulted and not be playing in this tournament.Until he learns the rules of tennis and grows up and stop telling crowds off in 4 letter words....maybe then he will get some respect.
Emotions get in the way for The Brat....other players can handle emotion better and propel them
Also he and his coach have broken up.....he has issues.
Oh, I could go on with poor sportsmanship. It's just that that was a glaring one, because it was a final. You may claim not to be a fan of Novak, but you are so far up his fundus, it's hard to distinguish. Or, maybe it IS as you say, that you just want to take down Fedal. Why exactly? They've been really good for tennis. And for such a poor ambassador? I thought you once loved the game. You had to go back a decade! Kinda pathetic! Truly! Again, I'm not a Novak fan! I just like what he's doing to the Fedal legacy!
I'm with you...I'll take it as some growth. I'm sure he knew he had to keep his head together v. Nadal, whatever the circumstances. And maybe he is treading lightly with the tournament director and the ATP. TBH, though, I keep hoping we get a more mature Shapo, and he keeps disappointing me. We'll see. He's had plenty of reasons to stop being a jerk, and keeps rejecting them.Well they didn’t, maybe the tournament director talked some sense into him and said you won’t get a second chance if you act up anymore you can catch an early flight to Paris.

Yes, you are a grumpy old man. And you have a selective memory. You seem to have forgotten the days when Roger and Rafa were the whole men's game, and made everyone a lot of money with their rivalry. We can argue over best ages in men's tennis, but no one is saying that this is the only one. (At least not anyone with any credit.) You've just decided to root for Novak to take that down a peg. That is your prerogative. But you spend aa lot of time (and emoticons) in service of that, to the point that it makes you look churlish. You do spin tales in service of that. Well, at least you copped to your agenda.I'm old and everything's fallen out of favor with me! Already said The Tennis Intelligentsia thinks tennis begins and ends with Fedal and it's just not true! There was a real Golden Age; esp. for the United States in the 80's & 90's with the best players coming from our country w/ McEnroe, Connors, Chang, Sampras, Courier, & Agassi! It makes sense to go "GAGA" over the accomplishments of Fedal, but it's gone on too long and too far! They nauseate me with their fake rivalry! The real rivalries are with players like Novak & Rafa, McEnroe & Borg, and Navratilova & Evert! They were close and neither owned the other too long! Rafa owned Roger in his prime!
Well he should have been....the rule is A player cannot jump the net to his opponents area of the court to check a mark?Well they didn’t, maybe the tournament director talked some sense into him and said you won’t get a second chance if you act up anymore you can catch an early flight to Paris.
This probably speaks to why there are so many issues between players and officials absolutely no consistency in policing the rules. When one tournament let’s you get away with things and another doesn’t, it is going to cause players to lash out. Do I agree with it no, but I also don’t agree with tournaments not being consistent in policing their rules. If it warrants defaulting a match, do it. If you don’t, it carries over to another tournament and gets defaulted. I think a player would naturally lose it and say well why am I being defaulted the same thing happened and I was allowed to continue to play. You can’t have it both ways. These officials have as much blame on this as players do. Consistency across the board helps remove any grey area.Well he should have been....the rule is A player cannot jump the net to his opponents area of the court to check a mark?
He was lucky another umpire would have given him his marching orders
