Vika is injured again. Her health and Serena are the two obstacles to her firm hold on the top ranking. I think fans have to accept this as part of her game, just like Petra fans have to accept her wild inconsistencies. Serena is a clearer favorite to win USO with this latest news about Vika's back. The chance of a competitive final has dropped a level. Too bad. I was hoping to see a high quality Serena vs Vika final. We might end up with a Serena vs Pova final instead. We all know how that will end.
Call me a skeptic, but I don't believe either Azarenka or Sharapova are seriously injured at all. You have to cite something to be able to withdraw. They will be fine by the US Open imo.
