The overall win is that both are finally seeming to match expectations. Dolgo as well. We've been waiting for some of these guys to make strides, and now mentality seems to be better meeting with their talents.

This... well said Mox.

The problem with Gulbis is it's only a matter of time after flashes of brilliance like this that you don't hear from him again for half a year. Or more.

Sadly, yup. It may even be the next match

We'll see. Is this Gulbis 2.0? I actually think so, plus he's working with Ljulbicic, who is a wise and calm man. Could be a good influence.

@nehmeth: green Pinto? :huh:

But how many times -- HOW MANY TIMES?! ( ;) ) -- have we thought we've seen Gulbis 2.0, only to realize we've seen another mirage?

To be fair, he has been consistent for over a year now, and doesn't seem content to merely be dangerously hovering around the top 20 and is applying himself.

On another note, I am excited to watch thiem, but hoping Julien knocks him out!

I'm not a great follower of Gulbis, so perhaps I've missed earlier flashes of optimism. But I do know that, since his mother told him to quit the game, (THAT'S a splash of cold water and a smack in the face, if you ever needed one,) that he has been more committed. About the last 14 months. I'm going to believe he cares. I guess we'll know soon enough.

5-0 record in finals is pretty damn impressive for a nutjob as well. Saying he wants to be world number 1 surely means he's more determined to work hard and so far it seems he is. He's always been mouthy (which I happen to find refreshing compared to all the boring pap from all the top guys to keep their sponsors happy) but this time it seems he means business.

Great interview with Gulbis on TC. He says he's also working with Gunter Resnick, who's the wacky coach of Thiem. (Where will THAT go?) He's bold and funny. Claims he wants to be #1. Says why not aim high? And when they show him smashing the racquet he says, "I have to respect my opponent, but it's my racquet." :laydownlaughing

He's working with Gunther Bresnik, not Sepp Resnick.

I see we have the same very effeminate umpire again for Benneteau v Thiem.

Edit: let me rephrase. Effeminate sounding. Haven't seen what he looks like but sure sounds like a woman.

Si, si Fernando!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rare top 10 scalp by Nando:
7-6, 6-1 against Richie Gasquet
:clap:clap:clap

The way he struggled against Zeballos I thought he will be toasted today
Now VAMOS!

Gasquet was seeded no. 8 here due to Ferrer's withdrawal and hence he
was supposed to reach QF at least as per the seeding. But, he does not
even manages to reach 4th round. When you get a lucky break and get
good seeding, you should make full use of it. But, Gasquet does not.
He will be out of top 10 in a couple of months.

Sharapova picks out Murray's picture and then says, "He still has the same attitude on the court." :nono

^ Yeah, I was thinking from the way he roars at times and is frequently snapped with his mouth wide open that it was him and that's likely what she meant but bit nasty to say it on camera. Then again I think she's a stuck up cow so I wouldn't expect anything less.

Booooooo. I think you'll find that the sun was in his eye. It was perhaps the first time he had seen it. It's not a common sight in his native Scotland. At least he wasn't mistaken for a girl *cough* Roger.

I thought Novak was pretty funny in the clip.
