I have watched Osaka once before in the Pan Pacific tournament. She looks more confident, and I hope she can flourish. Her shot selection is very good.

I was expecting this match to be much more competitive than it turned out to be. But, people should keep in mind that it is not just Osaka who beat four big name players to get here. Dasha also beat four GS winners to get here. Somehow she did not have the stuff today. But, at least she won my heart.
She's always had the power and the shots. In the last 10 months, she's slimmed down a lot and doesn't pull the trigger so quickly. She's got a nice balance of controlled aggression and that's why she's winning.
Yes. She needed money to travel w/ her family and the USTA weren't obliging her. So she took her dual citizenship and her mother's last name and played for Japan
Probably someone who's not working there anymore. I'm sure she made her respect for Serena's game known to them. She modeled her serve and everything off of it. Surprising with Serena getting older, they wouldn't take the opportunity to snatch someone who emulates her.
