compelling match already. Thiem really trying to pound Rogers backhand

he certainly is. I'm still a bit wary though. Not sure Thiem is really at the races yet

I wonder what kind of person Robert Federer is.

He came with so much intensity in the first two games, which seemed to affect his accuracy. He could be dangerous if he settles down.

If Federer loses confidence in the BH he could face some trouble...

that's true. The one good thing about Thiem though is that his court positioning will allow Roger to switch to serve and volley to give Thiem a different look if the need arises

Great game by Thiem. He is playing much better than I anticipated.

I don't know why Roger does this sometimes, he goes a bit passive in a weird way. Takes pace off his shots and allows guys like Thiem to dictate. That's fine with lesser players, but Thiem is good enough to take advantage

The spin saved Thiem there.

I often wonder about this. The only explanation I can get is that statistically it must work. But when it doesn't it looks silly. (not that I am convinced, though).

Federer raises his own level and gets a few BP´s.

Thiem's strategy is to overpower Roger.
