^I agree it needs to get better and I said so earlier. I also mentioned the opponent. I'm neither as optimistic as Carol, nor as pessimistic as Mrzz. I merely mention Federer as in he shouldn't get a complete pass. Djokovic, for example served 74% vs Baggy. Obviously, you play to the player across the net, but both boys are going to need to pick it up on the serve.

Moxie, I guess you're being overly defensive. I am not being pessimistic. I saw the match and stated my opinion about his serve. Some stats confirm it, regardless of what the opponent actually did. Yes, Nadal won a lot of points when serving, but even without taking into consideration that his opponent was returning pretty badly, he could have "solved" the problem by simply wining the points due to the simple fact that he is the better player of the two, by a huge margin.

Does it mean he'll serve like that for the rest of his life? No.

On the other hand, what Federer, or any other player, has to do with it? So every time I say "Nadal's forehand wasn't quite good today" I must complete with "but Murray's was sucking too"? And, by the way, I did not give Federer a pass. I mentioned some posts above that some of his stas were "scary", and I was refering exactly to his first serve stats.

And, to finish, some issues are always more sensible than others for specific players. If Federer has a bad serving day, fine, he'll be normal tomorrow. But if he starts to spray his bh, than everyone is concerned.

Anyway, no need for us to argue for so long on this.

Schedule for Monday 16 March 2015:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/scores/schedule.aspx?year=2015&eventid=404

There are some potentially good matches today. Here's a few that I'd like to see.
Tomic v. Ferrer
Murray v. Kohlschreiber
Monaco v. Kokkinakis

Gulbis hopefully is playing his way back to form. He faces Mannarino.

I have vested interest in Kokkinakis,it is a winnable match for him, still Monaco is a tricky opponent at the best of times.

BTW I have been reading that Rafa has been tweaking his serve at IW,trying to serve 'quicker',harder in an effort to win more free points, could have been a reason that his first serve percentage was lower yesterday.Looking forward in his draw he faces Young than Gilles.

First match I can see on my TV: Gulbis - Mannarino.
It wil be interesting, because Mannarinmo has never been as high ranked as these days (top 40) and Ernie tries to get back in form.
I think this could go either way, considering the circumstances

And Ernie is broken right from the gates. If his serve is off, he is still a long way to get back.

That forehand looks worse than ever. To think I once thought he was top 10 quality. He simply shouldn't be with that technique

Watching Gulbis play hurts the eyes.

What is he doing? Can't get a single ball inside the court. Grossly overhitting.

Gulbis has made 44 ufe so far in this match Ugh!

Thank goodness it's over.

Praise the Lord....;) Gulbis had the potential to be a Top 10 player, honestly it is sad to see the current form he is in.For the life of me why did he change his swing on his fhand? enough said on that.

Had a few minutes to spy a bit of Murray Kohlschreiber... just after I turned it on saw a flying back hand top spin swing volley from PK which was a thing of beauty. Worth the match.

What in the world is going on with this match? Murray won the 1st set fairly easily so I turned away and they're now still in the 2nd set an hour later! Was there a rain delay or something? I don't understand! :nono :puzzled :cover - Must be some rather long games like this service for Andy! :eyepop
