Honestly... I say go for it. Federer will play high risk tennis more than ever and, winning or losing, it won´t be so tough I guess. Dubai and IW are fast enough to suit him well, and he might think twice before Miami, but honestly, specially with Djokovic' s injury, he may well be seeing a chance to get #1 by the end of the year. A good combined campaign in Dubai/IW might get him further 1000+ points and suddenly he is well placed in the race. Then I can bet he would go to Miami and give it a crack. As the man himself said, you don´t wanna play a player with confidence....

It certainly is slow and it is some kind of humid. Rafa withdrew from a match last year in the sweltering heat and I was there to see it.

I'm horrified to hear he intends to play Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami. What on earth for? Skip Miami Roger...

If he does well at IW (at least a semi) I'd imagine he skips Miami. Dubai is spread out far enough from the AO and is a few weeks before IW. I agree there is no reason not to play that one. I don't worry about Roger and his scheduling, he knows what he's doing and I feel it is very rare that he overplays. Ironically the one time I thought he was overplaying given his age was 2012, he won Madrid and made the semis of Rome and RG. Given that I figured he'd withdraw from Halle but he played it and won the title. Tons of tennis over a 5-6 week span before Wimbledon but he won it that year so I couldn't be too upset B-)

Yup. I just worry he's a bit older now. No need to jeopardise Wimbledon

I am not too happy to hear about him playing those two events when he surely will be at Indian Wells and Miami like every year. I fear for him playing so much hard court tennis; I think it takes too much out of him. I hope he changes that schedule, Carol.
That's what I read but maybe he is going to change the schedule. And I'd love to see him playing in Miami but if he would have to choice between Miami and IW I think IW is much better place to play. Here tat that time there is too much humidity and sometimes it's too hot , yeah I remember last year he got some kind of dehydration and he has to withdraw

I agree with Twisted, though, in that he can always drop Miami, as it's the last one. And also T's earlier post that he not play too much in the clay season. Save it for the grass season.

@Carol, thanks for the update on Rafa's schedule. I don't think playing Rotterdam and Acapulco is terrible. He's losing points for skipping BA and Rio. But mainly because he doesn't really want to just sit on his hands. Rotterdam is still a week off, and there's a week between that and Acapulco. As long as he's feeling fine, he'll want the match play. He's riding a good run of form, so he wouldn't want to lose the momentum completely.

I feel I need to amend my comment about Rafa playing Rotterdam, for the sake of consistency. In 2009, after a 5-setter v. Verdasco in SF, and a 5-setter v. Roger in the final at the AO, I complained bitterly that Rafa played Rotterdam and screwed up his knees. I thought that Rotterdam was later in the schedule, but it's the same. Therefore, I have to agree with @shawnbm and say that playing that tournament could be a mistake. Now I have to hope he bails early.

Wawrinka has withdrawn from Rotterdam citing a knee injury,Rafa now becomes the top seed for the tournament.

It's actually a very good field, including the guys in the qualies. Heart says go for it, head say bail after the 2nd round, Rafa.

I have to agree with your previous comments,I do not want Rafa to 'overplay' regardless if he is feeling fine.
