he is just 22. probably a judgment error. the heat of the moment got to him.

I am sure he is not going to do this again.

no harm in talking about at the moment. its kind of fun that we get to talk about all these issues and stuff.

now in the long run scheme of things, I dont think this is enough of a big deal to be remembered by anybody.

people tend to be fickle and inconstant. people are also kind and forgiving. he will find out soon enough how to charm the crowds.

Actually CD it will be remembered by a few people, especially when another sportsmanship issue surfaces. When this issue happened last week, most people mentioned by name past incidents of poor sportsmanship.

Well, not quite "never do it again":

"I don’t think I dealt with that the right way, and I think it’s something that I probably should have in that situation, and probably in the future, call on myself." [Emphasis mine.]

In fairness, I think he used the word probably there more as lazy vocal punctuation, like when people say like for no reason, and not in the sense that Carlsberg use it: probably the best use of the word probably I've seen...

Well, I'm probably not feeling very, like, sympathetic towards someone who probably feels, like, no remorse, and who probably is, like, only upset because he was, like, caught. And probably wouldn't even, like, be saying what's he's now saying probably except for, like, everyone making such a, like, big deal out of it. Well, like, probably at least. :p

And you're probably right! :p

But I'm gonna cut him some slack from now on, he doesn't seem the brightest. He looks like a daytime soap hunkette and makes JJ seem brainy with his play.

Plus, he complied when Rafa duffed him up... ;)

Am I the only one who isn't completely outraged? It wasn't the best thing to do and he should have handled it differently. Aside from that, I don't care enough.

I don't care that much either, but it's the sort of thing people won't forget in a hurry.

Damage control...too late. Players go years without touching the net and when they do you usually don't have the chair ump botch the call. It's doubtful he will be put in that position again and we saw what he did when he was in it.

:laydownlaughing:clap:laydownlaughing More like I probably should have seen that pesky net, but what can I say:laydownlaughing my young eyes don't always comply.

I also think this whole apology thing is his equivalent to crying on Oprah's couch.

Milos just has to make sure that serve of his counts more and is more effective. He has the serve .he just needs to refine it.

Here is Kamakshi's take on Milos Net Touching Incident. A slightly different
and interesting perspective.

Did the net-touching incident change my perception of Raonic? Overall, I think it was a wash. If he had denied touching the net, that would have been a weak move. You're expected to call net or ball touches on yourself.

But he didn't deny it, at least, and as you said, the issue wasn't if he touched the net—it was if the ball was in play when it happened. That's largely for the umpire to call, so it's more akin to a line call in that respect. When you see a bad call, do you give the point to your opponent or do you "play the call"?

Opinion is split on that front— it's been argued that one is unfair to the opponent, and the other is disrespectful to the umpire. To the degree that Raonic basically declared that he "plays the call," he's entitled to take that stand, even if it's not the most "sporting" option. As long as he's consistent about it, of course, and doesn't expect opponents to give him calls...

Del Potro clearly didn't agree, but that's understandable, too—he, like Djokovic, seems to belong to the give-and-get school of thought.

Yes. It's huge in determining his character!!

Also, he's living in tax haven Monaco instead of helping out his adoptive country Canada. I hate when players do that!!

Djmm, if we determined everyone's character by a single mistake they made in the heat of a battle, we would not find a person of character anymore. If there was a pattern, I would understand, but there is no pattern. Just one bad judgement call...

personally, i am dissapointed at raonic's behaviour. I liked him a lot but this kind of things just puts me off.. I really hope he doesn't make another one of these again..

Similarly, in cricket, Adam Gilchrist of Australia was one of the most respected batsman. He has walked away admitting that he's out despite the umpire's not out decision.

Exactly.

Also, this is where the difference between doping and not calling yourself lies.
Not calling yourself is a decision that one makes in the heat of the battle.
On the other hand doping is a decision that is made in a cold blooded manner
before the battle begins.
