But, since Zverev zapped out starting second set, it was not a real challenge anymore.

Didn't see the match, but I did see the highlights on YouTube and you'd think Zverev's camp has got to be worried heading into the AO. He's lost 5 of his last 7 matches going back to the ATP finals. If you go back to his Montreal win he's got 12 losses in his last 22 matches. I included the Hopman Cup but not the Laver Cup.. If you include the Laver Cup, IIRC, he won 2 matches. That would still make him 12-12 in his last 24 matches. NOT a good record with a Slam looming. It's not just the fact that he's losing but the way he's losing. Some of the sets have been straight up blow outs - 6-0, 6-2, 6-1. Is he running out of gas or just losing concentration?

He's just not that good really and overhyped beyond belief imo. Makes far too many errors. When he's serving well he has a decent serve and a solid 2 handed backhand, but that's about it. People keep waiting for him to improve but his slam results are pretty rubbish and I personally don't expect that to change this year and there's zero chance of him defending those masters points.

Zverev declined really from where he was at Rome. He actually has talent/skills. But, the durability and stamina are the aspects where he is a dud. He seems to break down very easily in infinitesimally small bits and pieces.

Sasha's as skinny as a rake! Give him time to work on his body and stamina! That's a problem that can be overcome! Between the ears is something else, but he's barely been on the tour that long! It even took Nole time to come into his own when he owned it in '11 with just 1 major under his belt he stole back in '08 "down under!":rolleyes: :ptennis:

I fear you are correct. His 2 big wins last year - Rome and Montreal? Neither Djokovic nor Roger were at their best. But...I'm going to cut the kid some slack. He's still only 20 - won't even be 21 for another 6 months - so he's got time to improve. As far as I can tell though his biggest problem going forward is going to be that he's 6'6" tall - and he's never going to have the stamina to win multiple Slams a year. From his matches against Roger at Perth, ATP and Halle matches you could see that if his opponent can move him from side to side the entire match - or make him move forward to cover drop shots, short slices, etc. - he gets tired and frustrated and his game quickly goes downhill. He may win a Slam or two - but no, I don't think he's going to be a guy who wins 5 or more Slams or gets a stranglehold on #1.

I still say his biggest problem is his height. How many guys that tall have been able to maintain a high level of play for long periods of time? Jez Green would have to turn him into a physical beast in order to overcome the usual "Big Man Syndrome." As he puts on weight and muscle? It'll become harder and harder to cover the court. The player I'd compare him to the most is Cilic - tall, lanky, reasonably good mover, big server (now that's it fixed), decent groundstrokes...but not as good as people thought he was going to be.

Let me get this one straight..if Sasha wins the 3rd set of an exhibition match vs Fed woulda made him undefeated on HARD courts over Roger..Correct..
