Are they that desperate "down under?" What happened to all those "up & comers" like Kokkinakis? They couldn't find anyone born since the invention of the paper napkin? Hewitt's already scheduled for the Tie Break Tens XO next week!    :ptennis:
That's a good question...where IS Kokkinakis? It seems like he's had more injury than career, so far. That's too bad, if he's injured. Or maybe ranking just really low?

He just played and lost to David Goffin in the Hopman Cup. Don't you folks check the live scores? ;)

Hopman cup is not on the ATP website, so, no, not all. It's a bit of a free-for-all right now, and not easy to dig up all of the intel! Sometimes I, for one, get lazy and just expect you lot to tell me what's going on. LOL.

Kokk being part of the Aussie team, he cannot substitute for Sock, a player of another team in the same tourney. That is why they have to resort to Cash. Now, the organizers say that Sock will be able to play against Fed. However, they also say that if for some reason he cannot they have made alternative arrangements. Further, they say that it will neither be Cash nor the official back-up male player of the tournament. They are not disclosing who it will be.

Kokkinakis is ranked # 209. He has not come back in real contention since his injury 2 years ago.

The mighty swiss have won their group. What is even more impressive is that they are 9-0 in matches played. Bencic won all her matches and they also won all mixed doubles matches. Germany is likely to win the other group. But, the finals should be quite tough considering the German team is made of Kerber and Sasha (even if we are allowed to assume that Roger wins against Sasha).

Belgium is not ahead? They won all their ties, didn't they? At least I watched Goffin zooming past Zverev -- pretty good match, in fact.

No, Germany has won two of their ties (one more to go). Begium won one and lost one.

Currently, Germany is the only team that has won all their ties from that Group and so are in a position to clinch the group by winning the last remaining tie.

You should realize that winning a tie involves coming out ahead in a group of three matches, MS, WS and MXD.

If you were wondering what is Kokkinakis up to, he just beat Sasha Zverev. Pretty good I have to say.

Just watched the second half of the Federer Zverev match. Strangest match ever. Zverev checked out enormously. I saw from 4-0 onwards in the second... surely good highlights material in there, but from point to point, not impressed with Federer either, even if it would be hard to look good against a guy playing that bad. But Federer himself seemed to be angry with some of his shots. On the good side he was obviously practicing stuff.

Alright. That was one of the best matches of Roger.

Drop shots galore
Deadly on first serve points
Great return of serve
Great serve
Wow moments

First win vs Zverev on hard courts. He'll take it. Beautifully done by him. He was again demonstrates his mastery over the surface.

Well... not saying he played poorly, but I was sure the numbers would look fantastic, while watching the match I thought it was only normal. But maybe I am expecting much... have you watched the entire match, Shivashish?

I mean, some of the winners Zverev was just a sitting duck after some very poor shot in the middle of the court. Commentators were crediting this to Federer taking pace off his shots, but for the most part (of what I saw, second half of the match) it seemed more like very bad stuff from Zverev.

I watched it all.

I thought if a player is in bad form, he would not be making use of opportunities properly, and forget about hitting so many winners. He hit some fantastic drop shots. I am not saying Zverev played ok after the 1st set, but Roger executed many shots well. I was satisfied. For example, there was a devastating forehand cross court from Federer in the 3rd set.

I am happy with Roger's first win versus Zverev on hard :)
