I've decided we'll have musical history lessons here by posting videos of songs based on historic events for a bit.

Let's start with this 1 so people won't think I'm Scotland mad. If any Americans would like to feel free to tell us the background behind this & whether there's a better version, they're very welcome to do so.

If anyone wants to know the history these songs were based on, please feel free to ask me.

Since that last song was made someone made another 1 up as an answer. Here it is.

I've had a brilliant day today working on the museum floor cleaning exhibits & arranging the new displays. I'm working on the museum floor tomorrow too. I've only really done the archiving (back-room) work for the museum before. The rest of the time I was working in the arts & crafts centre, craft shop attached & café attached. I'm loving it. I love museum-floor work.

The 1940's day was such a success the headmistress of a local primary school booked for all her children to come & be taught about the 1940's so I've been teaching primary school children about life in the 1940's all day today. I've been told if there are any more school bookings I'm going to be on duty.

2. What was a W.A.A.F.?
3. What did Q.A.I.M.N.S. stand for?
4. Who was the forces sweetheart?
5. When did W.W.1 start?
6. Who was the Roman God of medicine?
7. Who invented central heating?
8. What was the name of the Roman wall that spanned from Edinburgh to Glasgow?
9. What was a gramophone?
10. What were the 1st records made out of?

For those who wanted them here are
1. 3rd September 1939
2. A member of the women's auxiliary air force
3. Queen Alexandra's imperial military nursing service
4. Vera Lynn
5 1914
6. Asclepios
7. The Romans
8. Antoninus's wall or the Antonine wall
9. A wind-up record player
10. Pot (as in pottery/baked clay)
For those who wanted a go but I gave the answers away too soon have a go 1st & then look at the answers to check. It's just for fun anyway.

Let's have another quiz.

1. Who were the King & Queen of France during the French Revolution?
2. What kind of entertainment was "Le cheval du diable"? For an extra point what does "Le cheval du diable" mean?
3. What was an equus sylvestris? I'm being quite strict here. I won't just accept horse.
4. Who funded the Heck Brother's breeding programme to try to bring back the Tarpan by breeding equus przewalski & equus caballus?
5. Between what years was the war to end all wars happening?
6. Same question for the 2nd world war?
7. What was Alexander the Great's horse called?
8. What nationality was Mazeppa?
9. What form did Nostradamus's prophecies take?
10. What was Nostradamus before he wrote his prophecies?

2a. "Le cheval du diable" - "Devil's horse" (easiest one)
3. Tarpan (wild, not refal)
4. Nazis (?)
6. 1939-45
8. Ukrainian

Rest of them are hard or I don't remember if I should from your posts. I need a memory refresher, if you're kind to reveal the answers...

1. The Sun King Louis XVI and Marie-Antionette
2. Part 1. Le cheval du diable was a hippodrama. You got the meaning right or literally "the horse of the devil".
3. Forest Tarpan. You've got 2 points so far.
4. I'll give you that. More specifically Herman Goerring.
5. The war to end all wars was also known as the Great War or WWI & happened between 1914-1918
6. Correct.
7. Alexander the Great's horse was called Bucephalus.
8. There are conflicting opinions among historians as to whether Mazeppa was Ukrainian or Polish so I'll give you it.
9. Nostradamus wrote his prophecies in quatrain form.
10. He was a Dr.

You got 5.

I've just been reading about the Capel Garmon fire-dog & the Llyn Cerrig Bach hoard. I wonder whether @britbox has had a chance to see them & if so what he thought of them.

Not in person, as they were moved to the National Museum after I moved to Australia. If you ever get chance, visit the St Fagans National Museum of Wales, just outside Cardiff. It's huge - much of it outdoors. Capel Garmon is near Conwy in North Wales and also worth a visit, as there is an ancient Celtic burial chamber dating back thousands of years.

Aww! That's a shame for you. I will. Thank you very much for the recommendation. I've only been to 1 place in Wales & that was Conwy. I read about Capel Garmon earlier in reference to where it is & that a Late Iron Age firedog was excavated which was in 2 parts, 1 part shaped like a bull & the other shaped out like a horse. Thank you very much for the recommendation. That sounds cool. I love Celtic art as well as history.

Capel Garmon is about half an hour south. Did you go to Conwy Castle? Caernarfon is also a pretty good place to visit in North Wales. Caernarfon Castle was where Charles was invested as Prince of Wales.

I went by train. I went to Conwy Castle. I looked at the beach, went shopping & had 1 of your cream teas. Your cream teas are lovely especially as you're generous enough to put a strawberry on the side. I bought some Welsh shortbread. I'm very sorry I prefer Scottish. Caernarfon Castle sounds nice. I know.
