Francesca Schiavone turned professional in 1998. She won the 2010 French Open singles title, becoming the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam event in singles. She was also runner-up at the 2011 French Open. She's turning 33 today. She's had a tough 2014 and has been fighting for her ranking. It's been as high as #4 in 2011 and is now #77. Schiavone has won six singles titles on the WTA tour, but has also achieved eleven runners-up in total, eight of them since the autumn of 2005. Schiavone lost her first eight career finals before finally winning her first title in July 2007.

Another veteran is celebrating her birthday - Svetlana Aleksandrovna Kuznetsova - she is a Russian professional tennis player and as of 26 May 2014 ranked No. 26 in the WTA singles and No. 61 in the doubles ranking. Kuznetsova has appeared in four Grand Slam singles finals, winning two, and has also appeared in seven doubles finals, winning twice. As a doubles player, Kuznetsova has reached the finals of each grand slam at least once, winning the Australian twice. She has qualified five times for the round-robin stage of the WTA Tour Championships but has never qualified for the semifinals. She was injured and withdrew from the 2012 US Open, ending a streak of 40 consecutive Grand Slam appearances dating back to 2002 and began her comeback last year and is more or less on her old strenght. Has won 13 WTA singles and 16 doubles (inclusive 2 slams of each). Turning 28 today:

One flying under the radar Karin Knapp (born 28 June 1987 in Bruneck, Italy) is an Italian tennis player. Her career-high ranking was world no. 35, which she reached on 25 February 2008.One of Knapp's biggest professional matches came at the 2014 Australian Open, where she lost in a tough second-round encounter with Maria Sharapova. Despite the loss, Knapp was praised for her determination and fighting spirit against the four-time Grand Slam champion. She's currently #65 in singles. She turning 27 today:

Another player Donna Vekić (born 28 June 1996 in Osijek) is a Croatian tennis player. She's an upcoming player turning 18 today. She's won 1 WTA title 20 April 2014 Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur, where she beat Dominika Cibulková 5–7, 7–5, 7–6(7–4). She's a player you have to watch out for - currently #72 - and YES it's another blonde :heart:

We are now a reasonable flock of tennis enthusiast emerging from different other forums joining this cosy community called Tennis Frontier - but who are we?

My suggestion is that when a member has his or her birthday it's written in this forum by the member with a little about who you are: interests, oddities, a funny story, a picture of the spot in your home where you find it best to be - or anything else. You don't have to reveal any names or essential information just something which tells a bit about you. And of course your wish for the tennisworld - important.

That is a nice idea, Hoergren. And funnily enough, today IS my birthday! (Moxie629…get it?) I'm not sure what to tell you. I think most people know that I live in New York City. I also used to live in Spain and in Italy, which is why I support a lot of Spanish and Italian tennis players (and football clubs, too.) BTW, it's been a beautiful weekend here, which I spent at a nearby lake. I hope others will keep up this thread, too. It's nice to know a bit more about some of our Frontier friends. heart:

Once again a double birthday among our stars. Alison Riske (born July 3, 1990) is a professional American tennis player. Her highest WTA singles ranking is 40, which she reached on June 9, 2014. She reached her career high in doubles of 110 on June 23, 2014. She's turning 24 today.The daughter of Al and Carol Riske, she first played tennis at the age of 3 years old after her dad took her out to hit. Her father worked in the Secret Service and later as an FBI investigator, while her mother was a school teacher, but both are now retired. Still has to win a WTA title but has won 6 ITF titles. And YES another blonde - must have a crush on them

The next birtday kid is Anastasia Sergeyevna Pavlyuchenkova (phew!) is a Russian professional tennis player and a multiple junior Grand Slam champion turning 23 today. Her career-high rank of World No. 13 was achieved on 4 July 2011. From July 2007 to September 2009 she was coached at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France. Since then she has been coached by her brother Aleksandr Pavlyuchenkov and in 2013 Martina Hingis joined her team.Born in Samara, Russia, Pavlyuchenkova first made headlines by winning the 2006 Australian Open junior title by defeating Caroline Wozniacki. She then won the US Open junior title against Tamira Paszek and defended her Australian Open title in 2007, defeating Madison Brengle. Anastasia played for the Sacramento Capitals of the World Team Tennis league in the summer of 2006. She's won 6 WTA titles and is currently #25.

Hurray hurray It's my birthday today. I turn 65 years young and have my first official day as pensioner. Feeling like a 25 year old inside but skin and bones are disagreeing. Well here are 10 things about me:

1. Danish citizen with our special humour which can be a bit strange.
2. Retired schoolteacher with intentions about writing my own story (have begun)
3. Had many different jobs before i became teacher: Steelworker, gardener, taxi driver, working at a lottery, pressing Beatles records at EMI - had a complete collection selfpressed, working in a paint factory, putting up fenches, making parties with jazz music like Papa Bues Viking jazzband.
4. Like womens tennis - Caro, Aga, Vika, Masha and Rena are my favourites
5. Like Ken Follet, Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, Stieg Larsson + some Danish writers
6. Like The Shawshank Redemption to mention the best movie
7. Like Status Quo, The Beatles and Little Mix
