Fedex won, but this is about as ugly as a win can get on grass, for his standards at least.

Apart from Roger's dodgy forehand it wasn't that bad a first outing. Kohlschreiber played well, Rogers serve looked ok. Movement on the court looked a bit tricky.

I have to say Roger's forehand is a shadow of what it used to be. A ghost...

Who's been more unlucky than Kohl? Had a final against Murray, only to play him again in Madrid; NOW Roger in the 1st round of Halle! Criminal draws these days! :cry :puzzled :nono :eyepop

The accuracy has majorly fallen off, but the power is just not there at all. He couldn't hit through a guy in a wheelchair these days. He should do weight lifting or something, it has really cost him a lot of matches, especially being the precision player he always is. I mean, the number one ranking (even though it is not that far as some may think) would be too much to ask from the old man, but he hasn't impressed me a lot this season...

He had a real chance here. Don't think I've ever seen him player Roger that close before

To be fair I thought he was outstanding in Dubai, and not bad at all at Indian Wells. Let's see how his form improves with a few more matches under his belt. That was a clutch win, that will do him a power of good!

I give more credit to the court; very fast! Even McEnroe was able to show glimpses of brilliance at the end on a fast court taking out Lendl in a WCT semi-final in '89! Lendl had officially taken possession of John; lock, stock, and barrel before that win! :dodgy: - This is when I say Roger is more a nuisance than a true rival or competitor when it comes to playing Nole and Rafa! Put him on grass and a lightning fast court, he'll surprise them all at times, but it still doesn't change anything! :cover :dodgy:

Kohlschrbrier is a tough customer and especially so at Halle. Both Murat and I felt that this would be a tough match. I am glad that Roger won though, as it means he gets little bit more match practice.

I would not be worried too much about the actualy quality of Roger's play in today's match. The first match on a new surface is always tricky. I would be worried if his form does not improve as he progresses in the draw.

Fed seems to be missing many volleys based on the highlights. I did not see the entire match.
So, I tried to look up the net points stat. Unfortunately, they don't have that stat listed in the
ATP website.

However, while looking at the stats, I found out that both Kohly and Fed won the same number of points, not just in total (%0% each) ; same number of points on serve (70% each) and same number of points on return (30% each). So, it was a dead even match.

Fed fell down twice and lost the racket in one of them. Need to find the grass feet faster.
But, serve looks good and backhand looks on par.

It reminds me when I made fun of watching Michelle Kwan picking herself up off the ice during her 2005 run at the World FS Championships! It was embarrassing, but I had no sympathy for her; out there for over 10 years! That was ridiculous and I hope it doesn't get that bad for Roger! :cover :nono  :dodgy: - He has a lot left in him and the rest of the tour supports his being there by being gutless and allowing him to rise above them when they have more weapons! :dodgy:

Falling down on grass courts is actually a common phenomena. You are trying to make too much out of it. In fact, in one of the recent Wimbledon there were more than 20 or so falls involving multiple players (about half a dozen at least).

The beauty of one of Fed's fall is that he still managed to get the racquet on the ball despite losing his feet and the ball went in and he got time to recover as well for the follow up shot, even though he did not finally win the point.

Just watched the highlights. Man, Federer got through by the hairs of his chinny chin chin. Kudos to Kohl for playing such a great match and almost taking it. Federer was lucky to to get out of that one. Maybe he'll get it going now.
