Hi Tossip, Jess has handled the conditions in Cancun to perfection, wind, high altitude, rain delays, it hasnt affected her play at all, she goes into the singles final underfeated, she has really played well.

Jess is playing her best tennis, at this tournament, though we will have to wait to see who wins the other SF between Iga and Aryna later, of course it is raining again in Cancun, but the players in the doubles match have just come back on court, hopefully the weather will behave itself.

After 2 days of the doubles match between Pegula/Gauff vs Zvonareva/Siegemund ii has now been completed due to bad weather!
The 6th seeds Zvonareva/Siegemund have defeated the No 1 seeds Gauff/Pegula 36 64 10-8

That means that Siegemund/Zvonareva (6) will play the No 2 seeds S.Hunter/E.Mertens (2) later today.
Storm Hunter will make her debut at WTA Doubles World No 1 when the rankings are released next week.
Hunter and her partner Elise Mertens have had an expecptional week at the WTA Finals, Cancun, going 3-0 in group play en route to the SFs.
Hunter wrapped up the top ranking after current co- No 1 players Gauff and Pegula failed to make this weeks SFs.

Iga Swiatek played a great match to defeat the World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka 63 62 and reach the final of the WTA Finals for the first time , a 10 match win streak.
Iga will play for the title and for the year end No 1 tomorrow against Jessica Pegula.

It's hard to bet against Iga, but Pegula has had a hot hand of late. Plus, I'd love to see her win. Sometimes, as with Federer and Djokovic, you get tired of it being the same person all the time. Go, Jess!

WTA Finals,
Order of Play,
November 6th,
Starting at 1.30pm,

Ladies Doubles Final,

N.Melichar-Martinez / E.Perez (8) vs LSiegemund / V.Zvonareva (6)

Not before 4.30pm,

Ladies Singles Final,

I.Swiatek (2) vs J,Pegula (5) H2H Swiatek 5-3 Pegula has won 2 of 3 this season

The No 1 ranking is at stake for Iga Swiatek and for Jess Pegula her biggest career title to date!
Both Iga and Jess have not lost a set all week, and both players have handled the windy and rainy conditions, high altitude, and rain delays much better than their opponents.
Jess has been timing the ball incredibly well and is on a 9 match win streak and has defeated No 1 Sabalenka, No 3 Coco Gauff and No 5 Elena Rybakina, she has shown her ability to go forward intelligently.
Iga to me played one of her best matches of 2023, against Sabalenka in the SFs. she looked like the Iga of 2022, she maintained a balance of aggression, playing close to the baseline.taking the ball early, she is riding a 10 match winning streak.
I expect a competitive final and Iga and Jess have been the 2 standout players at Cancun and deserve to be in the final!
Good luck ladies!

Iga playing very free and comfortable leading by a double break 5-1 1st set,
Wins the 1st set 61 over Jess
Jess not handling the conditions at present, lets see if she can re-set in the 2nd set

Dont mess with Iga when she wears a Red Dress!

Jess you had a good WTA final in Cancun well done ! you just came against an opponent in Iga who was just too good today in the final

Damn that was a hiding!
Wow, I'm curious ... What is the record for a WTA player handing out bagels during the first 5 years of their career? Iga has to be right up there near the top with Steffi Graf...If you think about it really similar to their fantastic footwork and the way they really attack their opponents by putting them on the immediate defensive( although it's the total reversal with Ostapenko for IGA)

Iga became the first player to secure more than 20 6-0 sets in consecutive seasons since Graff and Seles in 1991-92
First player since Serena Williams (2013-14) to secure 10 or more Top 10 wins in consecutive seasons
