Good stuff from Roger. The serve and forehand were really cracking. Has to feel good to end the title drought.

Fed comes through 6-7 6-3 6-4 for his first title in almost a year. The doctor must be gutted after playing very well and still losing.

Isn't that the truth. It's been WAY too long. Even though it's only a 250, this was an important win.

(PS - When can you change your avatar? It's very disorienting.)

Oh, good lord...you've been valiant enough! Even I can't stand it. It's the lead-up to Wimbledon. Let yourself off the hook and get a really good Roger one! You deserve it.:)

nice for Fed, finally another W. did you guys see the trophy? ridiculous. almost looks bigger than the Wimby one. this and Queen's have to be the most over-sized specimens at 250s; then again, it's somewhat adequate, since these two are the grass equivalents of 1000s.

agreed. the way it is, i always confuse Darth's post with yours.

also, can't help but feel for Youzhny a little. so close and still so far. he showcased some tennis that would be well deserving of some big Ws - but in the end, it's still not about who can play the best for 15, 20 or 65 minutes, but who can win 2/3 sets in the match. and that's not his strongest side, i guess. still, i was surprised with Youzhny keeping the mental side relatively sane for the match. i only saw one instance of 'stringbed vs head' - and that was Fed's!

btw, don't know how many people realized that Youzhny has quite an interesting coaching situation - his coach has been within for 21 years by now; since Mikhail was 10! that's Uncle Toni territory. also, very sadly, the coach apparently came in fulfilling the father figure role as well, as Youzhny's dad had died when Mikhail was just six.

I agree. This has been long enough, and it has become distracting.

Interesting bkg on Youzhny. I feel like he's been featuring more, of late, but maybe someone who follows him more can fill me in. (I. Haychew?) He actually goes down 3 rankings points this week, so I don't know why I feel he's having a good spring.

The Barcelona one is pretty big as well, but that's a 500 right?

yup, 500. i looked around a bit, half expecting, for no apparent reason/bad stereotype reasons that the oil-sponsored ones of arabia etc would be the biggest, tackiest. not so much. Doha, of course, isn't very modest either with that gold falcon. while we're at the subject of golden animals - my own home country wants in on that, too, with a gilden chamois.
Hassan II - Morocco is quite large (although, tbh, Tommy Robredo can make things look large in comparison, i guess) , but relatively simple in the design. the Grand the trophies of the Open de Sud in France aren't too shabby, but not quite Halle/Queens sized.
