Today's match is exactly the reason why I got Rd 2 Tues and Wednesday tickets for Cincy to see Fed.

To my memory that is a first. Any time he loses a match point in a decisive set he always loses.
Yeah, but you tend to be a little bit of an Eeyore like Broken and remember the bad stuff. I'd bet you're wrong. :smooch:

Looks like Paire needs to get a pair to convert MPs
I was going to post before I went out (at 3-3...came back to 6-6 in the TB,) that Paire has multiple skills for losing the match.
Surprised he waited so long to employ them. Roger must have been working pretty hard at losing, too.

you guys are being a bit dramatic imho. It wouldn't have been a big deal if Roger lost, and him winning a tough match here is a good thing. It's all about building the confidence and the miles. He'll have a week to rest up. Not like there are so many rounds in this. He can work on his game, get used to the Wimbledon grass, get his family set. The idea that he needs Wimbledon second week intensity here makes no sense to me at all. All positives for me. He was clutch when it mattered and didn't get injured. Not sure there was anything else to care about

4th lousy match Federer has played this year apart from IW SF-F,Miami R2.

Hoping this is the last off day for the rest of the season.

Great clutch serving from Paire except his last two serves.

Doesn't that make it not clutch? The point is to do it when it matters most

Yeah I guess but,
He did recover 0-30 twice and saved two MPs in his last service game of the 3rd set to ensure a TB(Fed wasn't troubled much in his service games in the 3rd set) so paires serve was crucial to at least ensure a TB.

For those who watched, how was Fed's serve? Pretty poor % of 1st serves won vs Zverev and Paire and they both broke him twice which is shocking on grass.

It was his second serve which was a bit concerning in the first two sets. It seemed like Paire was reading it well. 3rd set he was getting through his games quite comfortably. I suspect he’ll be fine but the most concerning thing was his footwork. It seemed lazy and slow. I think he’s still feeling his way back to be honest

I watched only the last two games. But, did analyze the match stat carefully.

It looks like in the third set, Fed served very well, losing only two points off first serve.

In every category of stat, Fed was better than Benoit except for the break points converted and saved. So, it looks like he needs to be more careful on the big points going forward.

I think as crazy as it was, Kohl figured to be the biggest threat in that half. As long as Fed doesn't wet the bed he isn't losing here, that goes without saying.
Well.he wet the bed vs BP..but got several stays of execution.

Fed’s BP conversion is shockingly low for someone who wins as much as he does.

I watched from 5-5 in the third set. What disappointed me most from the little I saw was that he was not getting his first serves in, and Paire seemed to be returning his second serves well, so it really became a scrappy match from Federer.

In his 5-0 H2H against Paire, Fed has always been dominant, winning most sets 6-1, 6-2, until yesterday when he lost the first set to him. Either Paire was in phenomenal form, of Fed was scrappy, latter seems to be consensus here. I expect him to be in real trouble next round against Ebden unless he raises his level.

Fed on court early tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. edt. I may not be up. I may have to delegate rooting to other Feddies.

But, I am sure I will be up in time at least for the match point.

Roger isn't playing well but I wouldn't say he's looking slow or sluggish. He's just missing some fairly easy shots against a guy who's always at net, obviously something he's not used to facing anymore.

I have a bad feeling this could be Cilic's year at Wimbledon. Hoping he's on the other side of the draw.

Poor volleying this game so far. I'm surprised this guy is S&Ving so effectively as he doesn't have a big serve.
