He needs to play well at Wimbledon at the right time. He actually did play well in the 2014 final by current standards but Nole was tremendous that day. The 2015 final was different, he wet the bed badly that day. Nole played a really bad 1st set and still won it and didn't need to get out of 1st gear the rest of the way either.

What is he supposed to say, isabelle? "I don't think I can win another Slam but am just playing for shits and giggles."

The guy has won more Slams than anyone in the Open Era and anyone since Laver and Rosewall won 19 and 23, respectively (including Pro Slams). He also made it to two finals last year and lost to a red-hot Novak Djokovic in the middle of possibly the greatest year in tennis history. He is still ranked #3 in the world.

The verdict: Roger has a chance of winning a Slam. It isn't a great one, but its there. Who has a better chance? Novak, possibly Nadal, and then....Andy? Stan? Maybe. Anyone else?

Despite your unreasonable hatred of Roger (could it be his 5-1 record vs. Andy at Slams?), he's still a very good player.

Oh no it starts again...each year we can hear the same old song "I can win a GS".....and nothing happens I wonder is the old Swiss is blind or what ???

No, he's not blind. You are. Someone beats Novak and his path gets a whole lot easier. There you go. Another slam if he keeps playing well after Novak is gone. Sorry to burst your bubble.

He's still a very good player for sure but he's almost 35 and had a knee surgery...I don't think he's still able to win a GS in 2016 if he didn't do it in 2013, 2014, 2015....just logical, time flies for all guys
you have the right to dream about but the window is quite small

We will see if he is able to produce at least the same tennis in slams this year after the surgery, like last year.
For now, he does the PR talk, which is expected.

He just withdrew from Madrid with a back issue.

I think the end is nearing sooner than hoped.

This is happening worryingly close to Wimbledon. How unfortunate must one be. One injury after another. We will have to see how he does in Rome. He has a final there to defend + quarters at RG. Oh Fed... :(

M Granollers just added to the Madrid draw as the "lucky loser!" Good for him! :dodgy: :p

Should retitle it "another grunting loser" over lucky loser.

I doubt that very much. Said he hurt himself during training and simply doesn't want to take any chances which is wise. I think the word injury is thrown around a bit too easily in tennis and indeed other sports. I've twisted my back doing such everyday basic tasks as reaching for a towel in the shower. Would I have said I have a back injury? No. I'd say the same thing, taking a few days off the gym so as not to make it any worse and a few days later you're fine again. Can't see this being any different.

Its that the injuries are starting to pile up. This is what happens when you age. One of the reasons players usually retire around 30 isn't only because of declining skills--actually, that might be secondary. It is often because it is simply harder to stay healthy.

We'll see. I'm not concerned about this one. Doesn't sound anything major really going by what he's saying. He's still a long way from Tommy Haas who incidentally wants to come back and give it one last shot either late this year or early next. He'll be 39 next year.

Are you comparing your back to the back of the spine of a supreme condition superior athlete such as Federer? All due respect Front to your gym heroic efforts but it may not be as simple recovery as you say for Roger's stiff back.

Sure am, AP. He twists and turns for serves and overheads but I'm crunching pretty big weight in the gym. Both pretty hard on your back and I don't think Roger pinching something in training is any major worry and he'll be back (pun intended) at Rome.

I know he took one against Malisse at Wimbledon without googling. He was pretty stiff in the set before which you could clearly see. Other than that not sure. If he's unsure of anything before the match starts he just skips it which is wise.

Just say not many; Fed's no angel! He's done it all; smacked a racket, cursed out an umpire, and no doubt other acts that any tennis player does in front or not on camera for all to see! Just check You Tube! ;-/ :cover :nono  :eyepop
