Nadal isn't even close to as big of a draw and please don't use social media numbers. I'm talking tournaments.

And I haven't heard Federer whine about Djokovic bouncing the ball too much. I have heard a certain diva bitch about one of the most respected chair umps for enforcing the time violation rules. The diva even had this chair ump banned from his matches for awhile
I hope you are not talking about, modest Nadal, then you say diva B.

Wtf Should rotate between Spain and London clay in Spain, hard in London. Wimbledon should rotate surfaces, clay, grass.
How do you suppose Wimbledon alternates between clay & grass? Dig the grass court up 1 year to lay the clay surface & mark it & dig up the clay surface, seed it, feed it & water it the next, not to mention mowing & marking the grass court the next year. Lol. I'm very sorry but I find your idea is absolutely hilarious.

They're both in the Antipodes so have a similar climate meaning if it's a bad idea for New Zealand it's also a bad idea for Australia.
I'm saying wtf in NZ is a bad Idea, if wtf was in Australia, it should on clay, then on grass sometimes.

I'm wondering what you base this on. I get how popular Roger is, but "not even close"? My only recent tournament experience is the USO, and I really don't find their popularity distinguishable. And I've attended a lot of both of their matches.

Unless Roger is playing in Spain or Serbia he is always the fan favorite in every match he plays. I've been to the USO a couple times and Cincy a bunch of times too. There are a lot of Nadal fans and he has long been the second most loved but Fed is very clearly the most popular player on tour

You said "by a lot." I think you're walking that back. He and Rafa don't always play in the same tournaments, and Rafa is likewise revered around the world. I'm not sure where you get that Roger is the only one. And I disagree with you about the USO. NY is a very Spanish-speaking city, and Rafa gets huge fan support here. I would never say that Roger is over him, here. I find it very even in NY. But you always see what you want, eh?

And you always see what you want as well. Just chalk it up as something we won't agree on. I will just say that in Roger we are talking someone who received more support than Murray in the 2012 Wimbledon final. It's very rare you watch a match and the crowd isn't majorly in his corner.

Murray is a Scot and a scratchy character. But you should note that, after Andy's speech, he won the crowd over, and the next year they were all in. It's also rare that you see a match when the majority isn't in Rafa's corner. I don't know how you don't see that. They are the two most popular players in men's tennis. As I've said, Roger is popular, and I won't discount that. But if you refuse to believe that Rafa is rather close to equally as popular, and at least as much of a draw, you are being willfully petulant.

Except he's not as popular and therefore not as big of a draw. When's the last time they played each other where you felt the crowd was 50-50 or more for Rafa?

I think arguing with nadalgoat2 has gotten to your head. You know they're both big draws. This kind of insisting that he has the crowd love is a little 'Sally Field Oscar speech', and beneath you.

^how has a Federer thread been turned into a Fedal war? You Rafa-tards have no respect :D I do agree that Rafa is by far the next most popular player. The problem is that as usual Moxie tries to link Rafa to Roger (really deep insecurity there :) ) I'm not sure that it's close with regards to crowd interest in Rafa vs Roger, I've never really studied things like for example does a British tennis crowd root more for Rafa than Murray?, what is clear is that if it's Roger they do. There is no question that Rafa has greater crowd attention than any other player apart from Roger, I'm not sure DF was disagreeing with that

Moxie, you should follow your own advice about taking a deep breath and walking across the room. Of course Rafa is hugely popular and a big draw but clearly he is in 2nd in both categories.

I think the reason why British tennis fans root more for Rafa than Murray is they know we don't win very often so instead of being patriotic they go for who they see as the best player which is why you, yourself support Federer (I'm thinking anyway as I'm not psychic). Patriotic Brits who support their own countries players are often seen as unrealistic optimists which maybe we are but we do get the odd winner.

Murray got a lot more support than Fed in the London Olympics because a lot of people take the country over the man... Wimbledon, maybe the edge to Fed and in the ATP finals, it's way more pro-Fed.

I disagree. The reason why British tennis fans support whoever they support is they like the tennis they play. Nationality has always been largely irrelevant for tennis fans, it's a more personal relationship. I support Federer (and Edberg and McEnroe before) because of the tennis he plays, patriotism had nothing to do with it

yes agreed. Which is why I was careful to insert "British tennis crowds". The Olympics was a lottery draw for who went there, so it was more about supporting the home team than anything else. Normally tennis die-hards are the audience and nationality be damned

It is arguably close, but there is no doubt that Roger is more popular than Rafa.

I'd say they are the only two who transcend the sport on a global level, add Serena if you factor in the women's game. Others transcend it on a more regional level. As McEnroe said though, Federer is the golden goose of men's tennis.

I remember when I was in Italy years ago, Italian fans were against showing matches of Italian tennis players on their sports networks. They were saying that they would rather watch Federer instead of Bolleli or Seppi.

For a lot of people I've known round where I live patriotism has a lot to do with it. They do admit when they're not playing up to standard or didn't deserve to win though. I liked McEnroe too both because of his tennis & I found him entertaining with his arguments with the ref "that wasn't out, that was in." & the like.
