Federer never shows mercy to Rafa indoors...........so Rafa should return the favor tomorrow and every chance he gets.

Haha! True, dat!

Sigh!!! Any one remember 6-1 6-3 6-0? Wonder which stat will be remembered more? The FO final, or some bagels and breadstick sets at YEC and Hamburg? Out of respect, Nadal repeats it, but knows he has enough of it :D

I know Rafa will probably win this but voted for the old man in 3 sets.
Wishful thinking?

me too..nadals movement is erratic now..low down on his backhand he lets balls go by for a start and often will not chase balls down..so fed could sneak a rare clay win.

LOL at Federer in 2. Yeah, right.

I vote Rafa in 3. I figure if David Ferrer can take a set from Rafa now, so can Roger.

thats what i used to think at first but it never works out that way haha. by same logic we could say gulbis took a set from rafa so at least ferrer or berdych should have beaten him yet neither did. it all depends on confidence and surface. fed has neither going for him. im prepared for fed to take a beating tom. hopefully he wins but i dont expect it.

And, as you say, by implication, on 'any given day.' Good to have you back around, Crystalfire! Tomorrow IS another day, so we'll see what happens.

Yes, probably wishful thinking. But as I said earlier, Roger's having a good tournament, and Rafa has been inconsistent, and often serving weakly. We shall see.
fed wasnt serving to hot today and against a returner like rafa hes got to serve like hes been doing the past few matches

hate these finals. but just can't look away (watched all 29). will be preparing for my fedal watching routine- looking for when fed commits an error/gives back an extremely weak ball after a high nadala ccFH. at least it shouldn't last over 2 sets.

Flfun fact: Fed can assure he'll avoid facing Rafa before the final in RG - by losing today. Funny, really. if he wins today, he might get Rafa in the quarters already.

What's Fed gonna do to that high bouncing fh that keeps going to his backhand? nothing, absolutely nothing he can do. When Rafa plays well, he does that and when he plays bad he still does that, knowing once he presses the magic button (which only he has) the match is in his pocket (on clay). The deficit is too large for Fed to overcome, the number is always against him.

Nadal in two. If Fed plays great i give him a 7-5 set if not, he probably goes down winning 5 or less games for the match. However it's good to see both meeting in another Rome final again, but i just don't see Fed playing the match of his life like last time, and take it to decider.

We know the script. Fed starts off hot, takes a lead and turns Rafa into a 'hunter' mode. Rafa says "thanks very much, that's exactly what I was waiting for" - and then cruises from there. It ends with a Rafa press conference saying "It's so difficult to play against him, no? He is the best in history and everytime I have to play my best to beat him,no?" Okay!!!!:D

Whatever the result, it's good for Roger to play Rafa before RG and Wimbledon, especially after failing to defend his titles this year.

Rafa in two.

haha that's about right, except Nadal would say "i have to play my best to 'stand a chance'"..... just a chance you know :D

should have just number of games Fed can win in this poll, no need for number of sets really. 1-5 games should just about cover it.

It's funny really, but Federer has actually improved at the Nadal match-up in recent years, but he just lacks the consistency. That, and the fact that as has been mentioned above, no matter how much he improves, the basis of the match -- Nadal's CC forehand to Fed's backhand -- almost always ultimately proves too tough to overcome.

In any case, I've seen Federer use a play that Ferrer did against Rafa to good effects, which is the rally backhand down the line. I think he'd be wise to do that, as Roger is good at putting a lot of spin on his down the line backhand, put it deep, draw a short reply from Nadal, and finish with the forehand. To me, this should be his go-to play if he is to stand a chance. It's also important for him to be super sharp, and be able to change directions with his forehand well, as taking Rafa out of position with CC forehands to set up the DTL winner is the other bread-and-butter play. Most importantly, Roger needs to have a hot serving day, and put a lot of pressure on Nadal's second serve.

Anyway, Nadal in 2, maybe 3 sets if Roger catches fire for a while and becomes unplayable.

Me too. 15 unforced errors already. Ridiculous. Fed, your C game is not enough to beat Nadal. Rubbish viewing.

Obviously Roger is not going to improve on clay as years go by against Rafa, but it still surprises me somewhat to see how he misses some shots that he should still be making with his eyes closed...It does not mean he would beat Rafa on clay if he makes those shots, but it would still be a bit more entertaining.

Wow what a fascinating match, the great Fedal match after all . Ok am joking, it's embarrassingly boring and one sided for all the build up and hype.

Roger is getting Rafa tired, he will storm back and win the next two sets.
I did pick him in 3

He is already a point ahead in the second set.

Well at least Roger avoided a bagel. His body language stinks, there is no fight, no will, he's just going through the motions and accepting another blowout vs Nadal. It's sad, really.

Instead of having 0-40 Fed wallops 2 straight into the net like a complete dolt.

Mirka's saying "Wtf is wrong with Roger, he's sweating like a complete khan out there!"
