Another confirmation about how the slams and Olympics are the most important... the wtf is in the category of the masters 1000... Federer's decisions always evolve around slams/Olympics, the rest is kind of secondary...
The WTF is a way more important tournament than the Olympics. Sorry to disappoint you. It's the top 8 players of the year battling to win it so all matches feature top ranked players unlike the Olympics. It also offers the winner a potential 1500 ranking points which is second only to the slams. No doubt you'd consider it the more important if Nadal had managed to win it even once, let alone 6 times. Good try though.
Tell that to Roger.

He already knows it so there's no need.
He cried his eyes out because he won the doubles gold medal with Wawrinka. He showed more emotions than he did in any of his WTF trophies. Don't kid yourself, this is ridiculous.
Bullshit. It's debatable. But to make this statement unequivocally is ridiculous. As Nadal, Murray, Federer, Novak if they'd rather win a gold medal for their country or the WTF and see what they'll say.
For sentimental memories yeah, a nice shiny gold medal looks lovely in your cabinet or wherever but, apart from the best of 5 final, the Olympics is an easier event to win based on the rankings of the opponents you face at the WTF (all top 8). The sentimental value and because it's only every 4 years is all people have to claim it being a better event to have won than the WTF imo. Loads of players who aren't even all time greats have won gold medals but for an all time great to have not won the WTF is more of a glaring weakness than the Olympics.
There's a multitude of ways to look at this, one of which being that you can with the WTF while actually losing a match, something that doesn't exist in any other tournament.
Also once you have 19 slams nobody gives a shit if you've won the WTF. Imagine being "yeah he's got NINETEEN MAJORS but damn, the lack of WTF is such a glaring weakness." These guys' resumes are way too bulletproof for this shit.

Fed should play till the difference in slams becomes at least as big as the age difference between Fedal. Only then it may be safe to retire.
Hope he wins a slam before that and then immediately changes his mind and postpones retirement for another two years. Can't quit now when push comes to shove.
It is a glaring weakness! If you want to point out the weaknesses in Fedovic's resume like they only have 1 French Open and no OGM's in singles, you have to accept the deficiencies of Nadal's! He has no YEC, only 1 AO, most of his majors @ FO, and has defended a tourney on HC only once! That's a lot to take in and overlook! The strain must be excruciating when pointed out! :cuckoo:
Yes and Federer has defended a clay title sooooo many times... Anyway Nadal will also defend his USO title next year so laugh all you want til then... Btw I’d rather win 1 AO title beating a hardcourt GOAT like Federer in the final then vulturing 1 RG title after having to wait for the clay GOAT to be out cause I’m 0-6 vs him. Also the #1 hardcourt tournament in the world and history will always be the USO and Nadal has plenty of those.
I'm disappointed! That deflection was quite inane & child-like; really lashing out instead of taking it all in & saying "hmmmmm!"
