The Tournament:

The Dubai Tennis Championships or Dubai Open (also known as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships for sponsorship reasons) (formerly known for sponsorship reasons as the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships and the Dubai Duty Free Men's and Women's Championships) is a professional tennis tournament owned and organized by Dubai Duty Free and held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on outdoor hardcourts.

The tournament takes place at the end of February and organizes a men's and women's event. The tournament takes place under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. In 2001 the ATP upgraded the tournament from a 250 level to a more prestigious 500 level tournament. Prior to the 1990s there was an annual Dubai Tennis Championship played at the British Embassy.

The Dubai Tennis Championships is the third tournament in pro tennis history to award equal prize money for both men and women.

The courts usually have a medium-fast speed considered to be similar in speed to the Shanghai and Swiss Indoor (Basel) courts.

About Dubai:

Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai.

Located in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula on the coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai aims to be the business hub of Western Asia. It is also a major global transport hub for passengers and cargo. Oil revenue helped accelerate the development of the city, which was already a major mercantile hub. Today, less than 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil. A centre for regional and international trade since the early 20th century, Dubai's economy relies on revenues from trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services.

Would like to see a Novak vs Tsitsipussy F.
the Mighty Greek hero has no easy path: Pablo- Hurkacz-Agut- Fabio or Andrej in SF

Definitely the bottom half of the draw has more speed bumps, and not just in terms of H2H, but also on form, I'd say. It would be a big upset for Novak not to make the final, or even to win it all.

Karen won his first match, he will most likely play Novak in QF.

Novak 6:1 and 6:2 against Jaziri.
One day these players are going to realize the only way to play Novak is to make him uncomfortable..keep the ball into the center of the court..give him the wide serve by taking away the service down the T and make him hit a lot of overhead lobs.. it's impossible to defeat him from the baseline..but you have to stay on his FH.. trying to stay with him beyond the baseline is useless unless you have a lot of variety in your game like Roger or Nick..unless you blitz him like Thiem.. one of Rafa's main issues with Novak's game is Rafa doesn't know how to take advantage of the Lefty advantage. Body serve him and rush the net on the FH..Good Grief..

Karen was quite impressive from what lit'l I watched of him! He was tomahawking his groundstrokes and volleying well against Kukushkin! :thinking-face:
Now I will watch the highlights.
But dont forget , tennis match is played by two players, on the other side was Kukushkin.
You have bad feeling for the QF?

Marin lost his match against Beard Paire in the TB of 3rd set, after winning the first 6:2.

He is still a shadow of his former self. I dont belive he will ever reach again his best level.

Twin "hotties" on court; #2 Perseus vs PCB! So far in the 1st set they're evenly matched just 5 all! Tsitsipas had an impressive S & V pt. or 2!
I expected a tough one for Tsitsipussy. Pablo is playing more consistent.

He often gets ahead in matches and then stupidly blows his lead and load all over the court.

Novak and Karen won, now we have an interesting QF.
Struff and Tsitsipussy should be also a good one.
