Been awake since 8am yesterday and still not tired. Was thinking I'd have to go to bed finally before the match started but kinda getting a 2nd wind now and wide awake at 7pm the following day! Glad I stayed up to watch Fed playing very well.

I actually tuned off after the first set since I thought the baseline battle was really one-sided and didn't see a way back for Fed. Silly me.

Prediction: Fed will have a good year (remains to be seen just how good), but will underwhelm on slower surfaces. His fans will go crazy after the clay season berating their man, calling themselves idiots for believing he might be back, before he has a great Wimbledon and North American hard court season.

I predicted him to finish #3 but that doesn't mean I think he will have a good year. A good year is winning a slam, simple as that.

If getting #4 by Wimbledon wasn't a high priority I wouldn't mind seeing him skip everything except Madrid and RG on clay. He won't be doing anything on clay again, and aside from points it will just be getting in his way.

I think if he can stay healthy, he might even make some noise on clay and give himself a chance against anyone not named Rafa.

I agree with Darth though. There is no such year as a good year for Roger without a slam. If he made 3 slam finals and lost all, I would say he had a better year compared to the last couple, but still he has to win one to have a "good" year.

Really enjoyed the match! Thought it was same old after the first set, but not so. Great result from Federer.

I don't think it matters too much to Federer, if he wins or loses tomorrow vs. Berdych, as I think he might have spent most of what he had in the tank for this match, though I'm sure he'd like to win. This match is confidence in the bank for Mr. Roger Federer.

I agree with the second part but not the first. Federer isn't ready yet to accept consolation prizes, or moral victories. If he loses tomorrow he'll kick himself: he's better than Berdych and when he plays like today, Berdy knows his place.

I agree that he'll have gained a confidence boost from today and it's well-earned. He upped his game last year, at Paris, and lost in 3 against Nole there, and at the WTF. But we could see that he was making a move and determined to stick to a plan. What was much improved today was that he didn't lose concentration in the third set. In fact, he rose his game again and put Nole under pressure every time he served. It was a vintage Federer display and I hope he rubber-stamps it tomorrow with the title.

Nole might want to watch that he doesn't lose too much confidence. He lacked intensity in the second and third sets. I know, he hasn't played much, but that's the schedule he produced. I thought he looked docile for large stretches of the match, after a stellar first set. He couldn't match Roger's hunger or aggression, and this isn't what he needs so early in the season...

He's looked pretty lacking intensity for 2 years now tbh, save for a set here and there. Dunno what the hell happened to him.

In fairness, today I'd give full credit to Federer, he was magnificent after a shaky start. No shame in losing to him in that form...

Well, I have to confess, I asked it from genuine motives. He played well at the end of last season but came up short twice against Nole, and in straights against Rafa. I just wondered if he had it in him, but today he showed he has, and it was a spectacle to watch...

^ He was the only guy I believe along with Del Potro to take a set off Novak in the Asian swing and WTF. Even Ralph couldn't manage that :p So he had to be getting there slowly but surely. Gotta restart my laptop. Around 60 tabs open here and lagged to &6{$

When you see how well he was moving today and how stiff and rigid he appeared often last year it's obvious his movement was compromised at times last year and he'll for sure have a better year this year, but then that wouldn't be hard. Much like Nadal after his comeback...it's always easier to play when you can move :D

Federer has been killing it in '14 so far. He well exceeded my expectations. Not in terms of results, per-se, but actual quality of tennis.

How about Stan taking out Rafa in one half of RG draw and Fed taking out Novak in the
other half and then Fed beating Stan in the final of RG to become the first man to win
each slam at least twice? After all Isn't Rafa supposed to slip after every four years in RG?
Isn't Fed supposed to capitalize when Rafa slips in RG? (A man can dream right, ).

Due to GOAT Jr coming sometime soon, GOAT Sr has to miss at least a month
sometime during the year. As they don't know when exactly he will have to skip due to
the above issue, Fed will not voluntarily skip any events that he has placed in the schedule
announced earlier until GOAT Jr arrives.

Thanks, I could not watch the match this morning as I was working. I will
see it sometime this weekend.
