I believe all other women's matches (doubles and juniors) are to be discussed in this thread.
So, here I go.

CiCi Bellis, the 15 year old phenom who was hyped last week, lost in the second round
of Junior Girls event in a three setter to a russian girl. So, they hype machine can now
be put to rest.

OMG, they hyped the heck out of this girl as if she'd reached the quarters or semi's. She won ONE match against an opponent who has been on a downturn since February.

The sister are playing like they are scared to take this match. Far too many errors as it's clear they are the superior team.

Calculated tank maybe? Perhaps they realize Serena needs all her energy to get #18 and so they'll gracefully lose while giving her a good practice session today.

So Serena serves a double on MP and the sisters are dismissed in straights 7-6 6-4

No, that is fannish thinking. They lost, just accept it.

Not fannish thinking. I don't have a horse in this race. She does need to focus on singles though, but who am I tell her that?

The women's doubles draw is now wide open. Williamses are gone. The #1 seed
Sarah and Vinci gone. The #2 seeds are gone too.

I am rooting for Sania and Black now even though unseeded Hingis and Pennetta are
threatening.

The girls are just getting old. Hate to see them lose so early. But, of course Makarova and Vesnina are a great team and just won the close points. More experience because they play together week in week out. S and V may know each other like the back of their hand but with both of their games constantly in flux these days, top tier teams are going to be able to deal with them. Especially since in this day and age they can't just overpower every team. Anyways, hopefully Serena's ankle is fine for her match against Panetta. And the match with Vika could make her move a lot. That is to say, I don't see Makarova beating Vika, but I wouldn't be sad if she did. Big fan of Vika and Makarova, so hopefully it's a good match.

^ Well going on Vika's present form, especially her match against a qualifer yesterday
I am picking Makarova to defeat her.Makarova has made back to back q/finals at the USO,presently her all round game is stronger than Vika's.

There's nothing wrong her ankle, she tapes for precautionary reasons.

If you have not got enough of CiCi she is on court 6 playing junior girls doubles.
But, it is not a TV court. She got eliminated in R2 of Junior singles. She is seeded #1 in
both singles and doubles junior events.

WOW; No mention of Hingis and Pennetta? They haven't even lost a set! Martina's been in just about every event she plays! Since they don't show doubles like they used to, I can only assume she's playing well enough; all on her partner keeping up with her excellence! I have no idea what her chances are now with upsets of Williams sister and 2 other top seeded teams!

Here is the thing to me on why doubles is fruitless for the Williams sisters at this point. They are losing to the teams that play consistently at most of the events as they should. Unfortunately for Serena mostly and Venus to an extent, playing a full singles and doubles schedule would drain them. You know, and I can't fault these other teams beating them as they are the ones playing doubles at most of these events. They obviously aren't getting enough doubles play to establish a rhythm again by playing the slams only. At their age, I wouldn't recommend them playing more doubles given their injury problems on top of singles. I would revisit it in a couple years when things are slowing down a bit in the singles arena.

Besides, at the end of the day, who really remembers who won the USO womens dbls champion 201?
