Ah, that's all right... Stan stepped it up when they didn't :cover

If it weren't for Stan the Man and those awesome shorts, we'd be talking about a double calendar slam at the USO. :snicker

Many years Roger was more than competitive with him, I have waited long enough, sometimes thinking these great times will never come.

Since January 2011, Djokovic has won as many slams as Federer, Nadal and Murray together.

!!!

This Wimbledon win definitely improved the case for a djokovic era!

Yeah, I agree. He was pretty dominant and with the Wimbledon, AO, WTF, and such a huge lead in the rankings, it seems like he's even more dominant than he was in 2011. Too bad Federer and Murray can't be more competitive with him.

It feels for me like 2011 redux, even at a higher level. That is why I am hoping for a USO title as well.
He let too many to slip through his fingers.

Maybe we have entered the era of Djokovic making up for missed opportunities. Time to get busy and start winning those slam finals.

Talking about missed opportunities I think there are others players missing more opportunities, they could do a lot much better but they don't.

Well, since the thread is about Djokovic, his missed opportunities were what we were talking about.

I know but I've read in this thread some comments about others players too so I don't think I'm wrong saying that, isn't?. If there is a thread about Murray or Federer or Nadal or anyone else we read many comments about others players in each thread too

Djokovic was playing at a higher level in 2011. He had to, given it was the era of big 4 dominance. There's no way he's playing at a higher level this year, but he could very well replicate 2011 as far as results go. I expect him to.

He's already ahead of his best season in '11; add a MC Masters and being a finalist at FO in '15! :dodgy: :clap - His wins have been more convincing as well, serving up bagels and breadsticks along the way in semi's and finals! :clap

I don't recall Djokovic being taken to 5 sets at the AO in 2011 (and looking unimpressive in both the semis and the finals), nor to five sets before losing at the FO, nor to 5 sets at Wimbledon. No, honestly, he's not playing at that level and his wins certainly aren't more convincing. He's also won the same amount of Masters 1000 events he did at this point in 2011 (which is every one he participated in). It's not even about results, just watch his game. Anyway, it's irrelevant because he doesn't to play at that level, evidently.

Results-wise Djokovic might be ahead of 2011 now, but I think we can agree that the level of competition was higher in 2011 than now.

I agree, the level of the other 3 is not as good this year like in 2011. However there is another threat to the big trophies, Stan, who does not know how to lose in a slam final.

I think Andy Murray is playing at a similar, or even higher level, than 2011. I see Andy's peak as 2012-13. Roger is also similar, if maybe a tad lower. The big difference is Rafa, who was in his prime and playing at a similar level as 2010.

Agreed. The competition aside from Rafa is arguably just as strong when you factor in that Stan is quite the wild card. 2011 was all about the top 4 with no legit threat outside of them. Of course with that said having a much weaker Rafa makes life easier for everyone but Rafa clearly wasn't any issue for Nole in 2011. Roger was the only real thorn.

Roger is a step lower than in 2011, on slow surfaces (clay, AO). On fast he is about the same.

If Rafa "wasn't a problem" for Novak, it 's because Novak was playing out of his mind, since Rafa was clearly a problem for everyone else that year. So you can't use that as a way to claim the competition this year is as good as it was then.

Also, yeah, 2011 was all about the top 4, which automatically makes it much more difficult than whatever the competition is this year.

Just saw this on Twitter.

The biggest surprise for me was that Djokovic now has more Grand slam wins than Nadal. Passed him during Wimbledon I believe. (Nadal has 196 wins.)
