One other thing. Isn't Rafa doing stem cell treatments? That has done wonders for some baseball players, so you never know - Rafa could discover the fountain of life and regain his former dominance. He really is an unknown at this point.

Who knows, El Dude. I suspect he will be ready for RG.

auto-pilot: can you create a thread about Nadal, please?

I've read about Djokovic sharing space with two of the best of all time, but in my opinion Djokovic is also one of the greatest players of all time in his own right. Sure, he's not going to win many votes as a candidate for a mythical "GOAT" title right now, but he's firmly in the Top 10 IMO and with more to come.

I liked the "Djokovic time" interpretation rather than the "Djokovic era" which seems too inclusive.

Whether you like him or not, the Serb deserves his kudos.

A wonderful post, BB. And I know you are not a big fan of Nole, so this is a high praise for him coming from you. Sure Nole can't compete with Federer's and Nadal's careers at this point, but what Nole has been able to do in the time of these two possibly greatest players in Open Era, it is nothing short of amazing. :clap

When all is said and done, we should have 3 players in double figures on a slam count. Pretty impressive stuff. I can't see anyone else joining that club before the decade is out at least.

There are many possibilities regarding speed and fitness.

There are also many possibilities for you to dodge that question, and you're exploring them all. Come on Front. This is obvious. There's a reason he came back slower after pretty much every knee injury. There's no point in avoiding it since it's common knowledge. I mean, it's not really that open to interpretation.

Djokovic is a lock for an upper tier all-time great contender.

Define slower. Out 2009 after his loss at RG with a supposed knee injury and returns to win 3 slams in 2010. Same in 2012 and he returns to wipe the floor in 2013. I'm at a loss as to how he's coming back slower to be honest apart from this year so far.

Give me a sec.

*Types: Slower definition*

slow
sləʊ/Submit
adjective
comparative adjective: slower
1.
moving or operating, or designed to do so, only at a low speed; not quick or fast

So "slower" would be defined as: Moving or operating at a LOWER speed. Not AS quick or AS fast.

Pretty straight-forward, really.

You're at a loss as to how he comes back slower? Let me help you. To determine if someone is slower, you don't look up their resume or the amount of titles they win. Those are more likely to reflect how well they're playing at a given time.

To determine if someone isn't moving as well or as fast, you watch earlier videos, then you watch later videos from a given year, you compare, and assess. Or, you've watched them so many times in the past you don't even have to watch older videos. You're able to immediately spot the difference.

Sorry if I'm coming off like a douche but you're literally creating a strawman. Nobody said Nadal didn't do well when he returned. It was explicitly mentioned that he improved other aspects of his game.

The idea is repeated knee injuries have clearly slowed him down throughout the years and he flat out acknowledged it and often states that he "can't run like he used to" so he has to "keep improving and be more aggressive." His words. Not mine.

Knee injuries aren't the only thing to slow you down though, age does too. I'd imagine Christopher Lee isn't as fast as Usain Bolt.

He looked pretty quick when he played Count Dooku in Star Wars.

Analogy fail. This is like saying, "I'd imagine Robert de Niro isn't as good at basketball as Kevin Durant."

De Niro is not a basketball player. C Lee is not an Olympic sprinter. I imagine that a 70-year old Usain Bolt would be faster than a 20-year old C Lee, just as a 70-year old Kevin Durant would mop the floor with a 20-year old de Niro.

Another strawman/false analogy.

I didn't know where to link this article from The Wall Street Journal that is just a must read for any tennis lover and not just Nole fans. I thought this might be a fitting topic as any, very well done by Tom Perrotta:

Since January 2011, Djokovic has won as many slams as Federer, Nadal and Murray together.

...and? No doubt about it; Nole's been the most dominant since 2011 with Rafa getting an honorary mention of his 2013! Djokovic has been "the MAN" since; with ridiculous additions to his Masters' totals! He will probably pass both Roger and Rafa before the year is out and will only be lagging behind in Majors! :dodgy: :clap

Yeah, I agree. He was pretty dominant and with the Wimbledon, AO, WTF, and such a huge lead in the rankings, it seems like he's even more dominant than he was in 2011. Too bad Federer and Murray can't be more competitive with him.
