There are many possibilities regarding speed and fitness.
There are also many possibilities for you to dodge that question, and you're exploring them all. Come on Front. This is obvious. There's a reason he came back slower after pretty much every knee injury. There's no point in avoiding it since it's common knowledge. I mean, it's not really that open to interpretation.
Define slower. Out 2009 after his loss at RG with a supposed knee injury and returns to win 3 slams in 2010. Same in 2012 and he returns to wipe the floor in 2013. I'm at a loss as to how he's coming back slower to be honest apart from this year so far.
Give me a sec.

slow
sləʊ/Submit
adjective
comparative adjective: slower
1.
moving or operating, or designed to do so, only at a low speed; not quick or fast
So "slower" would be defined as: Moving or operating at a LOWER speed. Not AS quick or AS fast.
Pretty straight-forward, really.
You're at a loss as to how he comes back slower? Let me help you. To determine if someone is slower, you don't look up their resume or the amount of titles they win. Those are more likely to reflect how well they're playing at a given time.
To determine if someone isn't moving as well or as fast, you watch earlier videos, then you watch later videos from a given year, you compare, and assess. Or, you've watched them so many times in the past you don't even have to watch older videos. You're able to immediately spot the difference.
Sorry if I'm coming off like a douche but you're literally creating a strawman. Nobody said Nadal didn't do well when he returned. It was explicitly mentioned that he improved other aspects of his game.
The idea is repeated knee injuries have clearly slowed him down throughout the years and he flat out acknowledged it and often states that he "can't run like he used to" so he has to "keep improving and be more aggressive." His words. Not mine.
