Ferrer plays his personal whipping boy Almagro. H2H is 14-0. Is there a worse
H2H among contemporary ATP players?

Does anybody out there thinks that Almagro can say "Nobody beats Almagro
fifteen times in a row" tomorrow.

The well known and expected scenario is unfolding 6-4 for David in the first set, he is already up a break in the second, can Almagro break back?

Fognini won. His great form continues. DC bump, following last summer confidence bump, after winninhis first 2 titles.

Robredo's going to have nightmares about his match. He was serving for it 5-4 in the 2nd when Fabio turned it around. Great job by Fognini. He's certainly taken his mentality up a significant notch.

And Ferrer took Almagro in straights. No upsets in Argentina.

Yep, it is 15-0 now. The whipping is over. 6-4, 6-2.

Although I don't know as a matter of fact, I believe among the currently
active players this is the worst head to head record between any two players.

THIS is a final I want to watch. To 5 foot 9 guys work the court with pure athleticism and it is going to be a battle of wills.

I say the Little Beast in 3.

This will probably be the most entertaining final tomorrow. I'll always root for Ferrer, but I do like Fognini's new will to win.

It is going to be entertaining...fire and ice...a painter vs a brick layer.

Ferrer is a warrior. His lack of variety is his strength and his weakness, but exploiting that is the exclusive realm of the big four.

^I know you're being complimentary, but in that back-hand way that everyone is to Ferrer. I think that people can make too much of comparing tennis players to artists. Or consider some as "artists" and others "artisans." A strong house is built brick-by-brick. And great artists, if you want to stretch it out, don't wait for inspiration…they work hard every day. No waiting for the muse. But when inspiration comes, you're already there, and in the moment. For those who are considered more "artistic," or flashier shot-makers, but are more erratic, well…good luck. I, for one, won't prize pretty or flashy tennis over effective tennis. It's a sport, after all.

Actually you misread me, nothing back handed at all. I was stating a cold hard analysis as to why he has only made one slam final and has a poor overall record against the top tier.

I have the absolute highest regard for Ferrer. I model my game after him quite a bit.
His professionalism and approach have been a huge inspiration.

As a part time tennis coach I can ASSURE you I push effective tennis over pretty tennis.

My observeration was light hearted and from an aesthetic point of view. This is similar to Leconte vs Wilander in my book.

I stand by what I said, the machine like repetitive nature of his game is a massive strength against virtually anyone out of top 8. It has hurt him against the big 4. But hell, what game HAS been effective against those MoFos?

Actually, I could tell it was complimentary, as you said basically only the top 4 can take him. Perhaps I used your post to air a grievance, and if so, forgive me. It was the "painter vs. bricklayer" that got me. There are plenty here that will disparage Ferrer's game. I'm glad you land on the side of hard work and results over style. And I'm not against stylish play. But I get very bored of waiting for players that are deemed to be "talented" and "stylish" to turn it into a big game.

Your last sentence rings true. I wasted a lot of blood sweat and tears rooting for "talented" players who were mental midgets. I'm done with that, and to be honest, so is the tour. Fognini is proof. He has gone from a journeyman entertainer to a rock solid pro, of course under pressure he sometimes reverts back to old habits..but the results speak for them selves.

Being a big Ferrer fan, I know exactly how difficult what he does is and what it demands.

I do however, have the ability to look from afar and judge a match by how it "looks"...

This is a match I want to see...Karlovic vs Isner...not so much.:nono
