Plus, that photo of Nadal beside Novak is not from when he was big. That's from 2011. Nadal hasn't been big for years now. The photos I posted above are from years ago when he was pretty damn big for a tennis player. The bottom one is from 2006. In fact I reckon most of those above there are from around that period. His shoulders are ridiculously big in the one in the green top too. Novak is ripped but not big and never has been.

Well, it depends what you call big or depending the picture though it's true that both have diferent body structure

Those are tiny, little forearms!!

He hasn't been injured for quite some time Carol. This is something else.

It is something else, no way the "hungry " couldn't figure a way to beat Dustin Brown , loose to Dolgo, Fog and Others in successive encounters or even Verdasco or Milos. These are matches had he won, we may be just waiting for his game to get season again but now I am not so sure.

Well, I don't consider that big. I've been lifting weights for 20+ years and Novak's a great tennis player but big he most certainly is not. Now, Nadal on the other hand used to be and I think those photos I posted prove that.

Gotta disagree there, AP. He's had trouble with these power players for years on grass now and I expect Berdych to be a similar handful for Roger if they meet. Both Rafa and Roger have just become more vulnerable to guys who play and serve big and this is normal as you get older. I don't think there's much of a strategy to help against aces and big groundstrokes other than hope the opponent comes down to earth, misses a few serves and whacks a few in the net. Roger said as much that you just have to hope guys like Kyrgios and Karlovic miss 'cos otherwise, you're gonna lose.

I'm going to begin a poll.

If Carol and Fiero were to marry, would they have children or emoticons?

Well Roger blocks back those big serves and approaches the net when he can but he has his work cut out for him just as much these days as Rafa does against those kind of players. Also Roger rushes them, the commentators said Roger was averaging 9 seconds between points in the first 2 rounds and even the power players feel they're being rushed then. Rafa takes his sweet time and maybe it's not the way against these kind of guys as it tells them you're in a tussle

I am sure that if Carol and Fiero met in some club or somewhere, after a few drinks it would be nice, but the moment one of them mentions tennis, or Rafa, good lord... :laydownlaughing

Nadal bulking up would be about the worst possible idea for a guy with a history of knee issues. There's a reason he slimmed down to begin with (and yes, he has, significantly. I don't see how anyone can deny it).

It was interesting listening to Pat Cash talk yesterday about what he thought is wrong with Rafa. He thinks that Rafa has a very serious technical issue with respect to his forehand. He believes that it's fixable, but he might have to rebuild the stroke. He doesn't think it's something that additional play is going to resolve. He didn't say it, but I got the impression the reason it isn't something that additional match time will fix is because his movement is not what it used to be. So he will have to construct a new stroke technique that accommodates his new reality.

In a nutshell, no. Not to you, to Pat Cash.

I'll say this, almost as nauseating as the anti-Rafa brigade is the false sense of optimism among some Rafa fans. Nadal will be back. Just not this year. Let's stop pretending like each tournament might be the time he unexpectedly reverses his fortunes.

It's not about injuries alone. It's just becoming difficult to re-discover his best tennis after every come back.

If you're reading the Internet, and physically becoming ill. You're doing it wrong.

If you're reading anything, and failing to spot metaphors/hyperbole, you're doing it wrong.

I'm not sure which is more depressing. The fact that either, A) you actually believed I didn't understand you weren't actually getting ill, or B) the fact that I was kidding went so far over your head, you actually responded in a defensive manner.

Lighten up man.

Oh boy, I clearly understood you were being facetious, and responded in kind. My post was almost literally a carbon copy of yours in tone and content.
