Did anyone dream at the start of this year that Isner would win Miami?
Ferru success in RG would've been equally unlikely but still possible.

^I would have put it differently, but I actually agree with him on both accounts.

So do I, but I don't want to be the one who starts the gender pay war again! ::sw1::

The point of this thread is for general clay season discussion - including any and all specific tournaments, but not limited to any one in particular, with maybe a it of clay history thrown in for good order. Maybe a stickie is in order?

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the dirt. Not only do I not have to worry about Roger losing, but things get real simple, real fast: cheer for whoever is playing against Rafa ;).

Seriously, though, here are the dates and reigning champions of clay season tournaments.

April 9: Houston 250 - Steve Johnson
April 9: Marrakech 250 - Borna Coric
April 16: MONTE CARLO MASTERS - RAFAEL NADAL
April 23: Barcelona 500 - Rafael Nadal
April 23: Budapest 250 - Lucas Pouille
April 30: Estoril 250 - Pablo Carreno Busta
April 30: Munich 250 - Alexander Zverev
April 30: Istanbul 250 - Marin Cilic
May 7: MADRID MASTERS - RAFAEL NADAL
May 14: ROME MASTERS - ALEXANDER ZVEREV
May 21: Geneva 250 - Stan Wawrinka
May 21: Lyon 250 - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
MAY 28: FRENCH OPEN - RAFAEL NADAL

I would add to this list the 4 clay court events winners from earlier this year in the South American swing:
Quito: R. Carballes-Baena
Buenos Aires: D.Thiem
Rio: D. Schwartzman
Sao Paulo: F.Fognini.

What is striking is the long list of names aside Nadal, of the players who came out on top in clay court events, either last year or earlier this year. The winners in the American swing is a better indication of those players who are in form now than last year.
For example, some of the last year winners like Tsonga or Wawrinka, who also was the RG finalist are now injured.
At least, most likely we will see a first time finalist at RG.

I never dream about tennis but had a dream that David Ferrer won the French Open.

A real shame such a middle of the roader who worked damned hard, but did him little to no good when it came to major events! Even Vitas Gerulaitis accomplished more and he supposedly didn't take his tennis anywhere near as seriously! Berdych & Ferrer head that group of players who had all kinds of ability, but never got too far when it really counted! They were owned lock, stock, & barrel by the "Big 4" & are on a steady decline w/ no fan fair! Cilic saved himself from obscurity by winning USO & being a finalist vs Roger "down under!"

Well yeah, it was a dream, not a prediction. But how awesome would it be if Ferrer won?

And @Moxie, I don’t know how my persona comes across here but I’ve got a strong “psychedelic and dreamy” side.

I'm kind of liking D. Schwartzman to have a very good clay court season. We should not underestimate this gritty smart player. He will be a force to be reckoned with this year. He will do damage and whoever draws him will have to work their tail off to beat him...round by round..

Sorry, I should have taken Hawaii into account. ;) But it would be awesome if Ferrer won! I mean, if not Rafa. :) Sweet dreams! :sleep2:

Yo, you posted it. Tiriac is a self-promoter, and, let's face it, a sexist. (He's said he prefers to watch women play tennis, especially if they have long legs.) His main motivation was to slam Roger for choosing not to play the clay season, i.e., not his event. In the same interview he also slagged off Serena:
“With all due respect, but Serena Williams is 36 and 90 pounds I would like to see something else, I would like to see a player like Steffi Graf.”
(And by 90 lbs., I'm guessing he meant "kilos.")
News flash, Tiriac, Graf is long retired. And she also dominated the sport in her time.

Whatever he meant, it was a nonsense which's easy to debunk. Just google:
"serena williams weight"
and the result comes: 70kg.
Never listen to this "Tiriac" guy, he's a fake news disseminator, like another "T-man" across the ditch.

Not sure what your point is. Are we supposed to dig through someone’s history before posting their comments about a specific issue? Nor am I sure why you’re telling me what his main motivation is. I posted it! ;)

I think people can tell by their own eyes that there's zero chance in hell she's only 70kg and probably not since she was 15 years old. Most of the Google weight results are wrong for every player btw. She's definitely well over 80kg but not 90kg.
