That point, even though Zverev lost it, was a great example of his movement...the one where he got up to that net-cord drop without touching the net.

It was their first meeting and it was a flogging. :spank2: Nishi doesn't know what hit him.

Oh, interesting that they'd never played. Indeed, it was a beat-down. Nishikori had a long, late match, but I don't think that's what did him in.

It was the same thing that ALWAYS does him in (when it's not an injury) - lack of weaponry. If he were 7" taller he'd be Tomas Berdych.

Sascha gets the Sock-beater Kevin Anderson in the final.

Looking like more silverware for the Zverev trophy cabinet.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't get it. In the post-game interview with Gimelstob, he was asked who was the 'most improved' this year between himself and his brother. He was very complimentary but wouldn't concede. Finally, Gimelstob said, "I'm giving you a softball...give it to your older brother!" Sasha squirmed and said, "but I don't want to." I like that. He's competitive, and won't concede anything. He was generous about Kei, and he's not a jerk, but he wants to be the best.

He takes the opener 6-4 and grabs the early break in the 2nd set 2-0

What I saw of it, Sasha was dominating. His 4th title this year ties him with Rafa, and one behind Roger, who has the most.

I just realized this a while ago but Zverev's 2017 is kinda similar to Djokovic's 2007 outside of Slam of course.

Both players were 20 years old and at the same time you could see the potential greatness.

I just look at Djokovic's titles count at this time 2007...he had 5 titles going into Montreal...it is the same as Zverev!

The BIG advantage that 2007 Djokovic have over 2017 Zverev is the slam results. At this time in 2007, Djokovic has reached two GS semifinals while Zverev has not even reached the Quarters yet...

Hopefully with an improved ranking, Zverev can finally go deep at a Slam.

Interesting comparisons. One point I would make is that Zverev is still working in the Fedalokovic era, so he's not so far behind, given the competition. He's definitely showing chops for future greatness.

Seeing Zverev's performance in Washington makes me think he's a dark horse/spoiler at US OPEN. He also strikes me as a player that could give particular trouble to Rafael Nadal who has shown some vulnerability to hard flat hitters.

He's come close to beating Rafa, and he's raising himself increasingly to his full height. I'm sure he's going to get the better of Rafa at some point, and I expect it to be this year. However, Nadal has experience on him, so we shall see when it happens.

I agree with the spirit of the remark. But, as a matter of fact, Zverev has won only four titles and not five this year.

But @rafanoy1992 said "5 titles going into Montreal." He didn't specify this year. He's right on that point.

Read his mesg again. He is clearly talking about the number of titles in the year.
I don't think so, but if you're going to be that petulant about it, the point still stands about parallels with Djokovic. When the 5 titles were won is a bit of a fine point, wouldn't you say? Did Djokovic win all of his 5 in that calendar year? Sheesh.

EDIT: I looked it up. Djokovic had won 2 titles in 2006, and 3 before Canada in 2007, which he did win. Zverev won one last year, and has won 4 this year before Canada.

You are the one being petulant about it. I already conceded before you jumped in that I agree with the spirit of the post.

Novak had more than 5 career titles going into Montreal 2007. Even after looking up, you are making the error.

This is according to the ATP website:

http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/players/novak-djokovic/d643/titles-and-finals

2006: Amersfoort (??) and Metz
2007: Adelaide, Miami, Estoril

...and then he won Canada. Please tell me what title I'm missing. And I did see that you agreed with the spirit of the post. I was only pointing out what I thought was an error. If I've missed something, I'm sorry.

PS: Just for fun, has anyone ever heard of Amersfoort?

Oops, you are right. Novak had won only five titles going into 2007 Montreal, just like Sasha has five titles going into 2017 Montreal. Also, upon reading carefully once again, this may be what Rafanoy was referring to. So, I am the one who must apologize in this case.
