probably not after 3 mp's go begging. Only way I see him winning is if Kei falls on his face

Didn't watch. Just tuned in.

Same here! This match has been going on for quite a while thru the TB and I can't remember a volley, overhead, or anything outside of mindless baseline rallies! OMG, I want to like Nishi, but it bugs me when he makes his job so much harder playing like this! I just can't explain it and it's so hard to watch when I know he could be more offensive and take it to this kid! Paul had his chance and if history is a measuring stick, he knows he had his chance & might go down easily in the 3rd! Let's hope not! He seems to have a lot going for him so far! :dance3: :ptennis:

welcome to the D.C. watch party Fiero. He was way more aggressive against Delpo earlier today.

It's new ground for Paul. But by the same token, if Kei doesn't pull this off, this is bad news for him. Paul is continuing to press.

Nishi gets the early break. Even a wounded or tired Nishi is still a dangerous prospect given his record in deciding sets.

Paul has been valiant, but this is where rubber meets the road, i.e., experience wins the day. I'm sure Paul is cooked. But I like him, going forward.

doesn't he remind you of a young Haas? W/ his height, body composition and backward cap.

Great effort by Tommy Paul. He didn't go away, and showed a lot of chops. Kei, however, has something to worry about in the next few weeks.

Results from the Washington Open Men's Singles Quarterfinal matches on Friday

2-Kei Nishikori (Japan) beat Tommy Paul (U.S.) 3-6 7-6(8) 6-4
5-Alexander Zverev (Germany) beat Daniil Medvedev (Russia) 6-2 6-4
8-Jack Sock (U.S.) beat 3-Milos Raonic (Canada) 7-5 6-4
15-Kevin Anderson (South Africa) beat Yuki Bhambri (India) 6-4 4-6 6-3

Tommy Paul had 2 or 3 match points vs Kei? Maybe even 4. Good gutted out result for the Samurai. Wondered what had happened to Tommy Paul prior to this.. hadn't heard anything about him for at least a year.

My man Sascha glides into the semis. A win here would be good.

I just turned it on and it's to see Sasha breeze to 5-2 in that last game.

Sasha is looking good for this title. He plays like this and he can tame the KA game.

I think so. Of what KA does well, Sasha does much better, including moving around the court. Seems like this one is going to be over in straights.

I'm OK w/ straights. I'll actually get to watch some of the WTA battle for Germany
