The Tournament:

The Washington Open (currently sponsored by Citi bank) is a joint professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts, and held annually at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C., United States. The tournament hosts both the womens and mens tennis tours.

About Washington DC

Washington, DC, the U.S. capital, is a compact city on the Potomac River, bordering the states of Maryland and Virginia. It's defined by imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings including the iconic ones that house the federal government's 3 branches: the Capitol, White House and Supreme Court, but also its museums and performing-arts venues such as the Kennedy Center.

Oh, the memories of this tournament! I go back to the 70's watching it when it was part of the clay tour along with US Pro, US Clay, Louisville, So. Orange, & Columbus! Anyone who lived here should remember when the Grand Prix played finals in prime time on Monday nights! Loved seeing those contests with commentators like Vic Braden, Donald Dell, & Bud Collins! They attempted to revive those prime time matches with IW back in '95; Agassi and Sampras in the final! It was a great day for Pete playing very well and hitting winners with broken strings! It was making Andre talk to himself! :yesyes:   :ptennis:

Just looking at Murray's movement and footwork, looks good to me so far. Never been one of my favorite players but I want him to get back in top shape and start stirring things up.

Look again! He's limping around, flexing his leg, and is not getting out of the way of his shots! This kid is taking it to the old man!

Wawa struggling w/ the Donald. I wonder if we'll ever see him in full-on Stanimal mode again.

I see a shot clock. Watching Wawrinka vs Young. First time? Any other tournaments implementing this?
I see it too. What's a little confusing is they don't start the clock counting down until the player steps to the line. So who knows how long they lolligag behind the baseline

Apparently, Stanimal also forgot to apply for Protected Rankings even though he was eligible to do so. In DC, he got WC. But, no word yet from the Toronoto, Cincy and USO Organizers. It looks like he will get a WC at USO. It also looks like Toronto is not too keen on giving him one.

Also, even to play the quals in Toronto and Cincy, he needs a wild card as he is ranked around 180 range right now.
