Great win for Blake. He had JJ stymied from 1st point.

I hope nobody heard me with my foot in my mouth... Usually blake's level seems to drop but we'll see.

Level dropping is not Blake's problem. IMHO, his problem is not having plan B.
He plays his game and if it does not work out, he usually does not seem to know
how to adapt. In other words, he does not have on court match intelligence.

That's not true.. Blake plan B is just like Sharapova's game B.. hit the ball harder and go for broke

Kohlschreiber will be a good test for Roger. If he beats him it could mean that Roger has some of his mojo left and can hope to recapture enough to go deep at the US Open. If he loses to Kohlschreiber it could bode poorly for the US Open.

I think roger will be ready general el dude. he usually does very well here.

I think the surface is ideally suited for his game as well.

roger really needs some matches now.

It would be interesting to see the potential match between Federer and Nadal in the quarterfinals. Assuming if they both make it to the quarters.

As for Federer, if he could make at least the semifinals then I think it would be a successful tournament for him. It would be a tall order for him if he faces Nadal, Murray, and Djokovic in three consecutive matches.

In addition, he could potentially meet Tommy Haas in the third round so it could be a tough stretch for him especially if his back starts to get tight again.

I have my doubts that Roger will even make the QF, and it is a disaster if he doesn't because that is going to carry right into Flushing Meadows.

Federer will take it one match at a time and I imagine he is looking at this event as practice for New York. But, one really can't deny that he is in an uncomfortable spot in losing as often and early as he has--a spot he has not been in for over a decade. So, it is going to be quite telling how he plays in these matches.

Lopez takes the first set from Nishikori. I might have heard wrong, but I think the commentator said Lopez advanced to the second round only once in eleven tries here. That is hard to believe, no?

That's correct Murat. I believe they said he's played 11 Cinci tournaments and has only won 3 matches total.

Nishikori held his nerve when it counted. I think Lopez can still take this in a possible tiebreak, but Kei may look to finish this set earlier.

Watching Lopez/Nishi in breaker 4-4. I can hear Azarenka's loud mouth.
