Moxie--It's not just one good day at the office: Novak has beaten Rafa the last 3X they played, and today was a beatdown. Rafa gives 100% every second, while Novak is more of a "mood player". And from the win in Indian Wells, one could tell that he had his mojo back. And the clay season IS coming, and I'm expecting a mighty interesting one at that.

It was a beatdown, I'll concede that. But it has been some time since the one match v. the two of them guaranteed the next. Novak certainly has his mojo working, but as you say, he's a mood player, and Rafa gives 100%. That gives me confidence for the clay season. It's all perception of what comes next.

Just watched Miami. Novak has that calm, precise, can't lose aura about him. He's ready to conquer in the rest of the year!

Why you didnt create thread during the past 12 months:blush:

He certainly saved his best for last, namely the final. Thing is though, form changes so much from match to match. Novak didn't look that amazing till today and eventhough they weren't great opponents, Nadal did look extremely good before he played Raonic. Likewise with Fed till the fiasco against Nishikori. It just so happened Novak's best match with no blips turned out to be the final. Which is great for him and his fans and I hope we see more of it in finals, especially at slams.

That's when a top player's really dangerous... Peaking at just the right time. A bit premature still.. but if Novak wins RG and the US Open I wouldn't be surprised. I would be thoroughly surprised if he won Wimbledon. I would still favour the other 3 members of the "Top 4" over him at SW19

While I'm glad he got his confidence back (it's really nice to see), it's way too early to toot the 2011 horn. He's played one really great final in flawless form. Just 2 weeks ago, everyone was concerned when he couldn't close out sets against Isner and Fed. He eeked out IW, but his play the rest of the year has been up and down. Everyone thought he was "back" after winning in the fall and look how the AO turned out.

He needs to put together a couple of months of consistent great play before you can cast a vote for 2011.

^ Yup. He played great but the thread should be renamed can you say overreaction?? Clay season is where things will really get interesting. If he managed to score not one but two wins against Nadal before RG now that would really be something big.

No, I can't say that numeric year but after witnessing that dismantling with my own two eyes less than 50 feet away from the world two best tennis warriors, Djoker has raised my dandruf. Let's give the Dirt :devil (Rafa) his time to regroup and refine his game on his beloved surface.

^^what do you mean "2011" you don't get it ..yes you do.

Without a doubt, Nole's '11 was the most successful season for a male pro since Laver's Grand Slam in '69! You've had Federer, Nadal, Wilander, and Connors with 3 majors, but it wasn't as complete as Novak's domination on all surfaces taking 5 or 6 Masters with those Slams! :clap

Actually, while I agree with your observation regarding Novak having the best year since Laver, it was Nadal who had the most "complete" year on all surfaces since unlike Federer and Djokovic, he won 3 majors on all 3 surfaces in 2010.

^I suppose we're making a distinction between most dominant and most "complete"?

Well it was made more complete in my mind by defeating his #1 rival 6 times and twice on clay in straight sets! I can't imagine anyone surpassing that year of '11 results! :clap :nono

Why must one year be better? Surely Roger's 2006-2007 run, Rafa's 2010 and 2013 and Nole's 2011 are all-time great years rivaling Connors in 1974, McEnroe in 1984 and Wilander in 1988. Why can't we say those years by those guys stand tall over the best years of the Open Era?

Absolutely. But then again, it's understandable to compare.

On second thought, I would place Roger's 2006 over Novak's 2011 by a hair (since he essentially lost to one guy only and reached the final of all slams).

Which is why I placed Nole's '11 over Federer's '06! You guys answered your own question; Roger losing to Rafa! No one owned Nadal the way Nole did for a little over a year taking 7 straight matches including the most memorable last one at AO in '12! :clap :snigger

nadal in 2010 wasn't as dominant is djokovics 2011 or whatever Federer season,

3 majors they all got, then there is most masters titles in a year and then world tour finals, so djokovic in 2011 wiith 3 majors 5 masters but zero wtf is prob most dominant.

Hmmm, I thought it was called discussion and intelligent thought! :nono :puzzled

Yes, Fiero…what do a lot of here is compare (players, records, years, etc.) and debate (them.) If not, where's the fun? :clap

I have no problem saying that Novak's 2011 was one of the great season's. I'll let you guys debate that over Roger's 2006.

that's simply wrong, Novak 2011 had 3 majors and 1 semi (RG) plus 5 MS1000 is NOT as successful as Federer's 2006 with 3 majors and 1 final (also RG) plus 4 MS1000 AND WTF which is bigger than a MS1000 - Fed also had better win/loss ratio and higher ranking points.
