Today's brain teaser for the House of Camelot:

A weed doubles in size each day.
In 40 days, the weeds will cover the entire garden.

Question :
In how many days will the garden be half covered with weeds?
20

It depends on how many were there to start with.

It doesn't - the answer will always be the same. It's a twist on a question that they've asked potential Havard undergraduates.

OK, @EquineAnn, I'll reword it slightly better as my wording on the original teaser may not have been the best.

Today's brain teaser for the House of Camelot:

A clump of weeds doubles in size each day.
In 40 days, the clump of weeds will cover the entire garden.

Question :
In how many days will the garden be half covered with the clump of weeds?

A friend suggested I write a sonnet about my love of horses. Do you think I should?

Today's brain teaser for the House of Camelot:

An apple and an orange cost $1.10. The apple costs $1 more than the orange.

How much does the orange cost?

Correct Billie. You are officially Harvard material.

My visit there last year must have smartened me.;)

Actually my sister came up with the answer so she is the smart one.:D

Here is one from her, that I guessed right:

There are 10 birds on a tree branch. The hunter shoots one. How many are left on the branch?

No BB. There are 10 birds, he shots one down (with a rifle). How many are left standing on the branch?

Hint: This is more of a logical question, not mathematical at all.:D

You didn't say he shot one down. You said he shot a bird.... the bird might have survived and not moved or it could have died on the branch.

Logically... the bird probably fell off the branch and the others will have flown off. So Zero.

Possibly... the bird died on the branch... the others flew off. That would leave one....

Possibly... the birds resettled on the same branch... leaving 9 or 10 depending on the death of the bird.

How do you divide 12 by 2 & get 7? This is possible. You don't add 1.

It's o.k. The old question made more sense than the new 1. I'm getting ready to go to Wakefield. I've got to spend my Birthday money.
