I just saw the end of the win for Hampton over Vinci. Great win for her! However, the stands were completely empty. You could hear the birds chirping. That's not a great endorsement for the women's game. WTF WTA?
There would be more people if the weather was better and Flipkens, Wickmayer or the 'star attraction' Wozniacki was still in it. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's a womens tournament. Make it an ATP event without any top 10 players or Belgians and the number of spectators would be similarly pitiful. The thing is that some think that tennis is extremely popular in Belgium, but it isn't. Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin are extremely popular, but that's it. Belgium is obsessed with cycling and football (even though the level of the Belgian league is dreadful). When it comes to tennis you'd get a substantial audience if one of the stars of the game would be involved, which is how it is in most places I guess. But as I said, if we'd have beautiful weather and the match was one between Wozniacki and Flipkens it would probably be a sell-out or close.

Well finally sunshine in Brussels and we have two players in the final:

16:30 Kaia Kanepi (EST) v Shuai Peng (CHN)

PS. Piotr stops as coach for Wozniacki Jyllands Posten (Danish Newspaper) is writing:

PIOTR STOPS AS COACH

Here is some of it translated:
Caroline Wozniacki's father, Piotr, will sit at home and watch her daughter play tennis on TV, so she needs a new coach, and they are very close to having found him. writes Jyllands-Posten.
Earlier, Spaniard Ricardo Sanchez and Swede Thomas Johansson assisted Caroline Wozniacki without much success. But this time daddy does not interfere from the sidelines.
- No, no, the new coach takes over full responsibility and it has been the intention all along.
- We are looking for someone who can be with her for the rest of her career and not just half a year, because it is bad and destroys much, says Piotr Wozniacki told the newspaper .

Caroline Wozniacki has been the worst possible preparation for the French Open - the year's second grand slam tournament, where it has been to five defeats in a row in various WTA tournaments.
But the decision to find a successor has nothing to do with her daughter's declining performance to do, says Piotr Wozniacki. It has been planned for a while.
It is still Piotr Wozniacki, who is the coach of Caroline when she faces Briton Laura Robson in the first round of the French Open, which begins Sunday.

Well he can say what he wants Piotr but I saw not so friendly vibes in Brussels when Piotr came on court - almost irritation from Caroline, so it must have been the final push against liberation.

It is for the best Hoergren. Her focus and motivation are somewhere else. He has tried, but it isn't working. It's time for a new voice that isn't Piotr.

I don't even think a new coach is going to help at this point. She is like 2 steps behind everyone else in the top 10, and everyone in the top 10 is improving rapidly.

Well finally the Brussel premier is over. Kaia Kanepi won 62 75 with solid play not world class but nice. So hope the weather will be better next year because it has been a terrible nightmare this year. Half full center court who could enjoy the play AND the sun which appeared in the final:clap

Congrats to Kanepi.Nice to see her holding up the winning trophy. After being out of the womens tour again with injury. She has a good
game on the clay and I wish her all the best at RG this year.

In regards to Caroline finding a new coach again. My question is 'how long will it last'?:)

Just read on TW.Com that Marion Bartoli has called it quits with her new coach and her father will be coaching her again.

Things take time and cutting a lifelong line isn't easy. She'll try again like Caro did and i don't think she'll get rid of (well maybe not the right expression) her father before he says he's had enough like Piotr says. Piotr will out of this circus and have a homelife watching his daughter on tv - at least he says so. Maybe she'll have him back for a short period if it doesn't work with the new coach - you still have to remember that thoughts have to be assimilated and understood both ways - player to coach and vice versa. I hope both girls will find a coach that won't force too many new things but make things grow little by little so the players mind can be there too. Good luck to both girls.;)
