Dimitrov trashed Steve Johnson, so I got that one wrong. Let's see how much commitment Grigor really has. All talk? Bernie Tomic didn't put up much resistance to Ferrer, even on home territory.

No surprises with Tomic. Grigor has put in a lot of work in the off-season by his own account.

I love the understatement: "I'm on a boat." Saw the replay of Rafa's match v. Dolgo earlier today. Nadal actually went down a break early in the first. Dolgopolov's first serve pct. wasn't great, despite the break, and Rafa just did his usual: stayed calm and got better. So, not especially commanding from Rafa, but good. And confident. Some good serving. He mentioned jet-lag, since he's only been in Oz for 2 days. He gets tomorrow off, which will help. Dolgo has a lot of work to do. He hasn't won a match since last summer. I know he has some sort of condition that causing fatigue issues.

Pouille won after a complicated match
I watched some of that one. Pouille was way down in the first and came back to even it, and win in the TB. The more aggressive player won, but it was an odd match, in terms of momentum.

Kind of a shocker for David.
Pouille retired? Another shocker kind of, but Simon will wear you out.
One of Kei's strangest matches but he got it together after losing that first set.

Jared looked good. Haven't seen him that much but he had good composure.

I watched a lot of Ferrer v. Thompson. The young Aussie was very good, and held his nerve. Ferrer committed too many UFEs, just when he was getting himself back into the match. He's 34, I think, and it's beginning to show.

Jared's got a good attitude. I've seen a few interviews with him and he seems really switched on.

This tournament has surprisingly good draw, some 5 top tenners and another 5 interesting players, yet some upsets as well.

@britbox did you go to the venue to watch some matches? I think you live there, don't you?

Edmund with the break...can he serve it out? He's been serving well, and threatening to break for much of the set.

I live an hour south of Brisbane but I'm away with the family on holiday at the mo. I will get there next year though.
