Of everyone, I'm rather stunned that Chardy is still in.

Medvedev is slowly and steadily becoming a threat. Top seeds should sight in relief that he will be one of the last seeds in AO (#15 if he loses final, #14 if he wins, just 16 seeds in 2019). He would be a nightmare R1 or R2 for anyone.

It will be quite a race between Khachanov and Medvedev for the best Russian player around.

I guess Russia finally got its act together even with all their problems with Putin! Figure skating has already been taken over by the women with the Olympic Gold medalist in danger of being eclipsed in the subsequent season with little she can do about it! The men aren't that far behind with more dominating skaters from Japan! I guess it politically expedient for Putin to invest in the athletes gaining exposure quite differently thought of in other lands! :lol3:    :ptennis:

I think Rublev deserves a mention, at least as far as potential goes. He's a step or two behind the other two, but also a year and a half younger.

I know, I know, you like him...:)
But, he has some work to do technically. Time will tell of course,
but so far he did not convince me.

His 2nd serve is very weak and his main weapon FH erratic

Rublev got injured so that explains why he fell behind the other two. He was keeping up with them until a year ago. Yes, he needs a better backhand but I already saw some improvement on Next Gen finals. The forehand is a monster and I am sure it will stabilize at some point (well, not sure but extremely hopeful).

Apparently, they dropped the 16 seeds idea. We will have 32 seeds in all GSs just as before.
