To my eyes at least it appears Raonic has added a good bit of mass to those previously quite lanky legs. That bodes well for his core stability overall.

I'm not watching this, but interestingly, Federer is ahead on all the serve stats...

Raonic is not going for the aces, he added a lot of spin to his serve. And a lot of body serves too.

Federer wins, but Raonic played very well, better than him in long stretches of the match.

Nicely done, Roger. First tournament of the year and first title and points gained already. Off to a fine start. Raonic's return game was very solid today but his serve let him down at key points but he's in good form to start the year.

Yeah some fantastic returns and beastly forehands by Raonic. 2nd set first serve % of 47% was poor but he played a great tiebreak so it didn't matter. He's looking good already this season and I mentioned earlier it looks to me like he's bulked up his legs which should help make his serve stronger and the more stable core as a result seems to be improving his movement. He looks much better at running forehands and made some unreal forehand winners on the run and FH return winners when pushed out wide. Some of Federer's serves were by no means shoddy and Raonic blasted them back with interest.

^Yeah, Raonic improved a lot. I'm impressed with his bh. Murat has been telling us that for a long time. Today it was there for everyone to see.

I never disputed the fact how clunky he used to be when first he rose to the top 30 a few years back. But he is a smart kid and very serious about working hard and slowly his work pays off.
He said he worked hard in the off season again, and it already shows.

Beware the Wrath of Milos!

Or is it, the Mrath of Wilos? We'll see soon enough... :devil

Despite the fierce, hatred filled, raucous, ugly, opportunistic, brutal, low, dishonest, frantic, stone throwing, not nice, criminal, double crossing, murderous, trolling, bitterly sarcastic, not nice at all, slobbery, cataclism wishful, screamy opposing fans, Federer gets his win #1000.

Sorry, Herios, surely not! But in more than one occasion I teased Murat a bit regarding Raonic's bh, so I owed him acknowledgement.

Just finished watching the taped match. Was too lazy to get up at 4 am on a sunday morning:)

First thing first : Happy 1000 Roger. :clap. Longevity matters.

Second, thank you Roddick. I believe half those wins were against him :snigger

I have to say this was the best Milos-Roger match I have seen so far and credit goes to Milos too. Being a set and a break down, he did not give up, turned it around and played on HIS terms for almost an hour. By his terms, I do not mean he outserved and outforehanded Roger. He just outplayed him for a long stretch. Backhand keeps on improving. Forehand was deep and pinned Roger at the back for multiple times. If I have to sum up Milos' game with one word, I would say his game is "maturing".

As for Roger, he started like a bat out of hell, could do no wrong for a while and at the end, kept it together for numero 1000. And I like the fact that it was not easy for Roger. He worked hard for it. This was a match he would have lost easily in 2012.

Great final over all and I hope both these guys have a great season. :clap
Also great pressers from both. I loved it when MIlos said to Roger something like " Come on, step it up man...just 1000?"

Side note; What was with that topspin drive volley from Roger in the third? I watched it in slow motion a bunch of times and I will tell you this: There is absolutely zero room for error in that shot. Zero. A millisecond off and that ball leaves the stadium.

Thanks Mrzz. :) Myself and Herios watch him more than the others here and we have seen the changes he is trying to make. Today he played mature tennis after the first set. I hope he keeps building on this.

Great match. Raonic showed something that none of the young guys have really flashed yet on the highest stages. Consistent vigor and power throughout an entire match. He really outplayed Roger for over a set and a half and was completely relentless.

I love the movement, improved bh and improved returns. I expect big things this year and I think he has the game to beat Federer and Nadal (Djokovic/Murray is another problem)
