Tpmic has always played well in Brisbane and I am sure he is even more motivated after all the buzz Kyrgios got after last year.
So seeing him improved should not come as a surprise. The competition with Kyrgios and now with Kokkinakis, in the end will benefit all 3 of therm.

I would just like to ad,Kokkinakis did have his chances in the match against Tomic to break, though he could not convert,as I previously posted,Kokkinakis will learn and take a lot from this match. He is still in the doubles partnering Dimitrov.

So after all the enthusiasm you have shown about this match, now that it is in the books, you have no comments? What is your take?

^ until he doesn't. i can't see any action, just the scores. i leave at 6-4, 3-1 Ad Mill, come back and it's 6-4, 4-6, 1-1. not that it's really surprising.

I thought Rafa and Federer both played really well in their matches, despite the scores. Their opponents were playing lights out tennis.

Perhaps a bit of a stamina issue for Rafa (and yes he's still a step and a half slow after a grueling rally relative to his prime) and ditto for Federer who was sweating in his match. But still they were hitting the shots they need to be hitting with authority (eg the Federer serve and the Nadal forehand).

John Millman is from Brisbane. Good talent, oft injured.

---------
One young man who has shown plenty of heart is Brisbane’s John Millman. Millman says please and thank you when talking with tournament staff, calls the umpire ‘mate’, and even applauds good shots. Proving that nice guys can kick butt, he just won the ATP Challenger Tour events in Taralgon and Yokohama. Millman not only went to school, he finished. Millman chose to play tennis. Soon after, he had his first shoulder surgery. He was 18 years old at the time. Fast forward a couple of years later. Millman is making waves and Tennis Australia chooses him to for the reciprocal wild card to Roland Garros. There was just one problem, Millman’s shoulder. Days before clay-court major, Millman rescinds the wild card.

“It was a tough decision but Roland Garros is a special place,” says Millman. “I needed the money and the [Emirates ATP Rankings] points, but I knew that I was not fit. My shoulder was dodgy and I could not serve or smash. I grew up watching Lleyton [Hewitt] and to be an Aussie at a Grand Slam and not give it your all was not an option for me.”

Raonic was more solid in the TB's: 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.

Nishi - Tomic next, they say Tomic looks a lot fitter and he moves better than before. Let's see if he can make some noise

well, how about that, Fed disassembles against the WC?

Fed faces another Aussie WC in his next match. Hope he does not have to sweat that one out.

He is all business today. This could be over in a hurry if he doesn't lose focus.

Nard Dog being his usual self. I have to give full credit to Kei, though, because he hit the ball beautifully. But Tomic didn't appear to give much effort, really. He had so much more focus and drive against Kokkinakis because that won clearly mattered to him more.

Ugh, Bernie. But still, well done Nishikori!
