It'll be a close match regardless. Depending on how Fed serves, Rusty could win this thing.

Wouldn't surprise me at all, kskate2. Hewitt's some fierce competitor even at 32 bust up with a steel plate through his big toe. The guy can only be admired. On that note, Stepanek has a steel plate in his neck and is 35! Some tough nuts out there.

It would surprise me. Any kind of focus, any kind of decent effort and this is one way traffic. Good time for Roger to show he can still play.

For sure it's a good time to show he can still play but we've seen how often he brainfarts and drops serve like a tool for no apparent reason, completely gifting away breaks without any real resistance causing the break. That's why it wouldn't surprise me.

Well the hope is that it is a new year, and new racquet and focus can help cut down on the sudden drops of play. Comes back around to how badly does he want it. He can play at the same awful level as last year and remain top 10 or another couple years or he can dig in and show he can still play.

Yeah, hopefully the real Fed will show up and serve and play well.

I saw the match against Chardy live. Fed's serve was excellent. The question would
be whether he can keep up his excellent serving or will he have an off-day in serving
department. If he has an off-day in serving department, he will sure lose the match.

But, Fed was not good in holding up his end in even moderlately long rallies
yesterday. Hewitt's ground strokes are pretty good and so I would expect Fed to
have the same problem today.

Fed did not use slice much yesterday. Hope, he changes things around and shows
some variety, just to keep the opponent honest.

I think Fed will win it, if he has good serving day. But, I am not worried about
Fed's focus in this match. He will be thoroughly focused. If he loses, it will be because
Hewitt deserves it.

In not so distant past, Hewitt beat Fed in the finals of Halle Grass Tournament.

It is amazing that two 32 year olds came up with victory in grueling heat and in
tough three setters.

Absolutely my dear, where are the young guns ???

Good question, isabelle, and I'm following it up with Front's post:

There are some tough nuts out there, and a lot of them are over 30, and not so many seem to be under 25. I watched a good bit of Hewitt d. Nishikori last night, and Kei was wilting. He just turned 24 6 days ago! Yes, it was hot, and yes, Lleyton had the crowd, but Kei is supposed to be hungrier than that. I expected to see Roger in the finals, and Hewitt is a former #1, but I still say it's an indictment against the younger guys. They should see what ambition and drive really looks like and hang their heads.

Rant over. I think Roger will take this. He'll be pumped and ready, but he'd better not give Hewitt a lot of rope. There's a whole cheering section dressed in yellow and green.

Wonder what the bookies are saying now?! Sara Errani could win more points than Roger today.

Serve is off considerably in comparison to yesterday.

Now, can he make the scoreline better in the next set at least.

Only serve? Every part of his game is in tatters so far besides that one ace.
