So, Front, what do you think of the new stick in this match? I saw some nice touch by Roger. Also, a couple of framed shots, even one that still went in.

Looks promising, Moxie. Definitely nice touch at the net. I think he's gonna have a much better year with this new change. The bigger sweet spot and extra power were badly needed at this point.

Right, off to bed for a few hours and up at 4:30am to watch Federer / Mahut v Chardy / Dimitrov. Wouldn't normally get up for doubles but I reckon this could be an entertaining match and I want to see Fed playing with the new racquet. Till then tennis fans.

Someone on the tournament staff should have told these 4 that they can vary from script (they're all wearing white shirts and dark shorts). :cover OK Fed's is off-white, but they still look like quadruplets out there.

I don't know what is the deal. The dresses were identical in the first doubles match that
I saw also. Three guys wearing white shirts and Fed is wearing slightly different color.
May be the tournament staff asked them to wear like this?

Fed and Dimitrov both had red shoes too. Confusing as hell at times.

I like this combined with Edberg as consigliere. Very promising.

Now I must sleep. Hasta mañana!

Next up Cabal and Farah. Have not heard the names of either one of them.
But they are seeded no. 4 and so might be a tough match on paper. But, I think
should be a easy match in practice. Should be lot easier than Chardy/Dimitrov.

Poor Mahut; seems to have lost a close match against Jeremy. 3 setter.

Yup. Hopefully will work well together. Off back to bed here too. 7:30am! Looking forward to Nadal and Gulbis and will probably watch Monfils v Brands too later.

Ah well. He won with Fed and looks to be enjoying himself in the doubles so he's still in the tournament.

results today:

Chardy - Mahut 7-5, 6-7, 6-3
Hewitt - Lopez 7-5, 6-3
Copil - Simon 7-5, 6-3
Groth - Herbert 4-6, 7-6, 7-6

Extremely proud of Marius Copil, this result is by far his best win of his career to date, Romanian tennis badly needs a new guy to break out, as Hanescu is not getting any younger and Ungur does not seem to be able to do much more than coast in the 90-120 ranking area.

Great event for the auusies here, they now have 3 guys in quarters, Hewitt, Matosevic and Groth.

Here are the QFs for tomorrow:

Federer v. Matosevic
Groth v. Chardy
Hewitt v. Copil (Roumanian Q.)
Cilic v. Nishikori

___________

* Chardy was looking good in that doubles match v. Federer/Mahut. Up against an Aussie.
* Hewitt should get past the qualifier; for sure he'll be hoping to make a good (last??) run in home territory here and at the AO.
* Cilic v. Nishikori is very interesting. Both are looking to get some mojo back.

I think only the outcome of the last one (Cilic vs. Nishikori) is uncertain.

Nishikori could not close out. He was broken in the last game and cilic has won the set.
On to third set now.
