Let's not forget influence of Maria! Heaven knows Martina Hingis was vilified and made in "The Black Widow" when top players' games went south while dating her! :p :nono  :dodgy:

He has been with Maria for many years by now, and he was improving during that period until last year, when after Wimbledon, his result became less good.
I have been advocating for him for a new coach for months by now, he has to change something sooner rather than later.

Years? Really? What was she doing; swaddling him? He's a baby still! What a cougar! :dodgy: :hug

They got hooked up in late 2011. Maria was 24, and Grigor 20.

I'll understand the physical attraction, but what in the world can they possibly have in common (outside of tennis) or can talk about? Just thinking of women maturing a lot sooner! When Caroline Woz was just a pup, she was already dating older men like Gus Hansen; a compatriot and poker player! :p :eyepop

They're young. Does there need to be anything else? :snicker

Grigor is still #15 in the Race to London rankings, so hasn't fallen too much despite a disappointing first half to the year. His overall Masters results have been similar to last year and the difference in his Slam results so far is going out one round earlier at the AO. That said, he's got 720 points to defend at Wimbledon and 360 in Canada. He could really drop if he doesn't get his act together.

While Grigor's results have been disappointing, I still can see a breakthrough at some point. But it really needs to be a big tournament, at least a Master's title, to show him that he can win on the big stage. If he doesn't get that big win in the next year or two then I could really see him having a "Youzhnyan" career: winning maybe ten or a dozen titles but nothing more than an ATP 500, always around in the #10-40ish range but never really climbing into the elite.

sir grigor has claimed his raquet change has been done for longterm gain and results might suffer as they clearly are doing.

so I am keeping the faith, ive seen plenty of his matches I still believe big trophies will be within his reach pretty soon..or maybe slightly later than pretty soon.

Has he reached a Master's final in the first place so far? I don't think so.

Let's hope the next coach let's him have his wings back. Rasheed has helped him become physically stronger, let's hope he keeps that but starts showing more of the creativity that made us all pay attention in the first place!

I will go out on a limb and predict that when the first serious drop-off occurs for Djokovic and Murray (and Federer) - whether it is from injury or just one or two early losses at a Slam - I think Dimitrov will be the player who takes advantage of it. Dimitrov will finish his career with 2 or more Slams.

In Kieran-ite terms, Dimitrov is the estranged lion who is timidly waiting for the kings of the jungle to fall off their pedestal. When they do, he will have the courage to roar loudly and climb to the top of the mountain. As it is right now, he puts his head down and sheepishly walks away from the royal court because he doesn't have the stomach for facing down the chief lions.
